ok here's the bad news...
1. I do not speak mandarin or cantonese.. I took it on school but I do NOT know enough to carry on a conversation. I am more than willing to be lost though and just follow along with someone's movements if necessary.
2. The money thing is kind of up in the air. It depends on what I can find and how long I could save up. I could probably manage a fair chunk of change for about a month or two of full time training. So long as I had some costs before hand to save towards.
3. I have found quite a few sites from China on the web regarding martial arts schools you can go and live at and train and they all have instruction in english. BUT the problem is they are all very vague when asked about whether or not they teach modern wushu or traditional Kung Fu. I am not interested in modern wushu at all.
4. As far as sleeping arrangements I would prefer to stay wherever I was training i.e. live in training. But, if necessary I could probably find another place to stay deopending on where the school was located. A hotel or motel if necessary but I would like to cut down on my living expenses so I could have more money to pay for training. The less I spend on rooms and food etc. the more time I could stay and that is what I am interested in. It seems a good deal of the school sI found on the internet in China offer live in boarding and training but again are vague as to what they teach. I have been fairly lucky here with finding traditional kung fu masters to learn from and would like the whole asian experience in traditional kung fu. It just seems that everywhere I find is too vague about their curriculums for me to want to spend the thousands it would cost to go there and find out if they are teaching what I want to learn or not. Not the kind of gamble I am willing to take.
I really appreciate any feedback I can get regarding schools in asia that would accept an english speaking white guy to come and live and train for a month or two. Thanks in advance!
