A lot of chinese fleeing from communist mainland went to taiwan "back in the day" because of its closeness to mainland China and its somewhat already populated by Chinese. Taiwan isnt communist either. A lot of famous Chinese style masters have lived there...I believe tai chi master W.Chen lived there, as well as quite a few Hsing I masters and such.
It does have a better economy and probably all the "feel" of China. It also has a large Japanese population as well, I know quite a few japanese that were raised there and then moved to America. It seems to be a little island melting pot if you will.
But I really dont think that you would find as many qualified instructors in China....not because there arent any, but because they simply would be hard to find....much easier when they speak your language and live in your country where you have more freedoms and such.
