Hello all - am new to this forum. I live in Budapest, have been practising XingYi (Hebei style) for 5 months or so and spent 3.5 years training Wing Chun in the UK (Kamon) and a little Leung Ting WingTsun over here in Hungary.
(By the way, I recently ordered Alex's two XingYi VCDs and they are excellent).
Regarding the WC/XY connection, I would say the two arts are miles apart. As said, stepping, power generation and issuing and intent are different.
A friend of mine in New York studies XY and also has some WC (and Mantis) experience. He summed it up like this: "WC has kind hands. Tan, Bong and Fuk defend but do nothing negative to the attacker's limb. XY on the other hand is cruel, you destroy the opponent's attacking limb on your way into their head."
My favourite XY related quote I heard was this, when someone asked what XY is was
"Imagine how easy it is to push over a big, heavy man when he's just lost his balance. Now imagine that man losing his balance and at the same time being hit by a speeding car... that's XingYi."
