| Wow, interesting indeed. When I first went to Japan to meet my in-laws, I showed up at the start of a tournament, in November. My father in law and I would sit and watch while we drank beer or sake every night. Whenever my wife and I would get in from our wanderings, he would be in front of the TV, watching. He loves Sumo, and was happy that I would sit and watch with him, as he said most of the younger generation, (mid-30s and down), don't appreciate Sumo. He feels that the sport has diminished, to a degree. He also says that some of the young up and coming Sumos don't carry the same air of dignity about them, as the champs of old. This stunt is a clear example of that lack of respect for tradition.
Thanks, Unk for the update. I haven't been keeping up with the tourneys in a while, it will be nice to call Papa up and talk with him about this.
