Rep Power: 10 | | | Karate and Kung fu Recently I saw a lot of clips about sparring, specially of karate and kung fu.
In many of them, the kung fu warriors and the karate warriors lost to muai thai , taekwon do, JJ and BJJ.
I know it's could be because maybe these people just not good in fighting, but I fell some shame when I see these kind of things. The name of Kung fu and Karate is getting bad, maybe you don't feel that way, but here in Israel, a lot of people think that these arts are lame and I'm pretty shock |

Rep Power: 153 | | | You have to train hard to be good in any martial art. You have to train hard and smart to do well against fighters from other martial arts.
The reputation of various martial arts goes up and down with the years. It has to do with a lot of factors, how it is taught, how it is marketed, and so on. And it also depends on each individual in that art. If you are lazy, your art will suffer.
Also, looking at cross-arts fighting in the videos, always take the sidebar commentary with a grain of salt. The person posting the video may have an agenda of making his art look good. But did the people hosting the fights, and the people participating in them, go into the fight with the same agenda? Some of those fights are merely exhibitions of skill. Others are fights between inexperienced competitors. It's not good to judge an entire art from a grainy, 30-second video.
In the end it's really up to the individual to decide whether their art is any good or not. There are many real-world ways to test it. The opinion of others should hold only a little weight.

Rep Power: 100 | | | You have to train well in any SPORT or anything to be good at something. Nobody expects to get a chess master by playing with a friend once or twice a week. The same goes for sports, without good practice, only a small amount of people gets good at it, and those naturally gifted only get a little higher, not to professional level. It's not different in fighting methods like CMA.

I don't know,I spent almost 10 years in taekwondo and jumped ship to hsing-I almost 2 years ago.I still keep in touch with some friends from tkd and we get together to train once in a while.Since we are not sparring by tkd rules,I do just fine against them.In fact I would say I do better now than when I was a tkd student. One of the reasons that I jumped ship was that,I feel that some of the things they teach you in tkd is just downright silly for practical self defense.I find Kung Fu to be a very practical art for the stand up game.Nothing at all against tkd,its a strong stand up art if taught and practiced properly.I can't comment on the other arts you listed as I have no exp.My advice,if you love your art, just train hard in it,enjoy and don't worry about the rest. |

I agree with you!
If you're not training until you can't move your legs the next day your not doing it right. | |
