I'd say, if a person wants to go to China, go as a tourist. Travel the country, see the sights, meet the people. Go to Shaolin but with open eyes. From what I read it sounds like a blissed-out Disneyland. Well you don't worship at the feet of Mickey Mouse so if that's all Shaolin is, then no need to worship at the feet of the buddha. Take pictures, buy a postcard & some beads, enjoy the experience as a showcase of one facet of Chinese culture.

I've also heard what oldguy said, that the best kung fu masters left China a long time ago. You can find them in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia, U.S. & Europe, anyplace where they can practice & teach undisturbed.

Funny thing is were American's crit. a society that's been oppressed for a long time. "American's crit. capitalism." Think i spelled that right....
Wow that's something new. So what they want to make a buck. Not like our major corporations don't go over seas and set up sweat shops to make shoes and enslave there children to work for them. I don't think we have room to crit. them for making a buck.

Hah!! The Chinese gov't may be a communist gov't but the people on the street level that we deal with one on one are capitalists extraordinare. If there's a buck to be made somewhere there, you better believe somebody's doing it.

Go study MA... be happy with what you've got & keep moving. It's just a show & PT Barnum would be jealous of them.

And it is about advancement... have you been to Dengfeng & Shaolin? I have. It's all about advancement there...

Trust me i'm not losing any sleep over it, but it's kind of hard to explain to people that you're legit when they see "Shaolin" brand shoes or "Shaolin" Brand drinks and herbs or whatever. I always just try to seperate myself.

BTW I would kill to see Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Shaolin monks do a show together. That would be the most awesome rendition of Freebird ever.

Actually the monks can't make it through Freebird, they get way too emotional. However "Three Steps" they're all over it.....which is strange........

And what is wrong with corporations going overseas to make thier products and using sweatshops to do the work? Thats keeping the price down for us (consumer).
If a pair of NIKE shoes were made here instead of some little sweatshop in Thailand then the shoes would probably cost twice as much. Granted its taking jobs away from us here in the U.S. but it really soesn't effect me directly. I'd rather pay the lower price. Thats part of capitalism. As for the Shaolin Temple, they got to survive somehow and if playing to tourists is what they have to do then so be it.

Hump day?! Not for me I have a three day weekend starting tomorrow:P!!!!

Now as for the Shaolin, Idont mind them surviving by demonstrations and using Wushu as demonstrations. I just wish the government (and that there was soomeone left) that would also show and teach the older stuff. Hell I'd go to see just the older stuff. And yes I would like to pray in a few of the temple areas that arent for show but probably wont happen any time soon.
