No not in the least. It's family business. I've got enough on my plate as it is & had enough on my plate when I was in SD to not worry about it.

What does having enough on your plate have to do with being curious as to why they split??? I didn't say you or me had to get involved with them and try to help them get back together, I'd just like to know what happened for curiosity sake. Thats all. You may not want to know and say it's family business but I'm sure there are lots of people that would like to know and I'm one of those people.

Changing the topic.........one of the reasons I left SD was because of the NO contact rule when sparring. Other Shaolin Do people claim that this is crazy and that they DO make contact when sparring but here is a link to GM Sin's brothers web site. As you can clearly see it states that for the first three belt you DO NOT make contact when sparring. Hiang The' is the one who taught my classes when I was studying SD at the Sin The' Sports Center. This is how it was then and this is how it is at GM Hiang The's school now. Maybe GM Sin has changed his approach to sparring now but it was NO contact back then in the mid 80's.

It means I have more important things to do than sit & around & wonder why two brothers don't talk much anymore due a rift 20 years back.

Then roll on over ask 'em. I'm sure they'd be more than happy to tell you. Hiang The teaches at the Y & Sin The is over off one of the loops. I'm sure either or both would be just happy to open right up to you with their personal & family business.

I'm quite aware of where they teach. Hiang The' mainly teaches at the Beaumont Center Y and GM Sin's school is on Goldrush Road over off Stone Road. And I doubt that they would twell me why the split because I have heard 2 or 3 reasons why and they aren't something you want to openly tell.

The first reason was because GM Sin left and went to China (as an 8th degree bb) to visit I Chang Ming before he died and 2 months later came back a 10th degree bb. Hiang The' didn't like this and questioned this (I to would question this. How can you jump that high in 2 months time???)

Another reason I heard was because of the poor decision on the wavepool that eventually cuased thier bankrupcy of the Sports Center.

And the third reason was due to the incident at the tournament at Lafayette between 2 Four Seasons instructors and Sin The's students. Supposedely GM Sin was in China when this all happened and when he came back he was furious that his brother let this happen. It made him look bad.

Interesting, 900+ forms and a meteoric rise from 8th Dan to 10th Dan. Wouldn't that normally take a minimum of 19 years at the very least?

Eh not so much. The Kukkiwon is offering in Dallas soon a chance to jump up to 3 dan ranks... but of course you have to pay for all of them you skip as well.

This jump in rank to 10th degree is one of the reasons why the break up between the two brothers from what I heard. I have no proof of this mind you. Supposedely GM Sin wanted to promote his brother to 9th degree but the brother (Hiang The') told him he didn't have the authority because he did not believe that GM Sin was a true 10th degree. And yes Ben your right it would take years to jump that much in rank. I don't know about 19 years like you said but it definitely would be years not months.

JD, I'm going by the formula of, when you're a 1st Dan, you wait 2 years to go for your 2nd Dan, etc. So theoretically speaking, at the very least it should have take Sin The, a minimum of 19 years...

And thier forms have a kempo/karate look to them. They are nothing like what I have seen of Chinese Kung Fu forms.
