Rep Power: 41 | | | How does the ranking structure work in Choy Lee fut? At what level do you begin to teach? I don't really care about attaining rank but any How many years and level you can become a teacher. |

Rep Power: 87 | | It varies widely!
Maybe Chan family CLF has the same ranking structure throughout all schools? I dunno.(Actually, now I am curious if that is true or not.)
I know in at the plumblossom tournaments all the schools had widely different ranking structures and sash systems. It was interesting to see.

For the most part in CMA it's when your teacher tells you to. Kinda like with most things...

Rep Power: 41 | | | Ok, I know in most Traditional Japanese styles (that have adopted the belt system) you learn most the Kata's before you reach black belt then between 1st and 4th Degree black Belt you really begin to learn the style. and then around 7th your usually concidered to be in the masters levels. But Chinese is really different so I wasnt sure. |

Rep Power: 6 | | Hi Green Horn,
The best place to find that out is to obviously ask your Sifu.
With that said, there is a structure to how the Chan Family CLF does it's rankings. All Chan Family CLF teachers go through a certification process and there are a variety of certification levels. For North America's certified instructors you can go here. (Caveat: I have no idea how up to date this is so don't kill the messenger if there's some incorrect information on this site.) |

Rep Power: 59 | | | there are almost 150 hand forms in Chan family CLF. The first level consists of 10, second has 14 and the third has 23. Depends how far you want to take it. Add to that the weapons, dummies, san-da, lion......

Forms... like bobble said... many & as far as you want to take it.
Techniques... not so many. CLF has it's basics & then everything else is variation on a theme.

They're fun & cool. But don't forget the weapons, partnered & internal sets that CLF has to offer. All of it blended together makes you pretty well rounded.

Naw, was posted b4 you joined I think. I was apologizing to the others who might be wondering just how many times I was going to post that link again.
But, when people ask about forms in CLF, it is a good thorough cite to look at, so I may end up posting it again in the future.
