Rep Power: 53 | | | It seems to me that can actually slow you down(detailed note taking etc.), as movement is best learned by repetition, ie you need your body to remember, not your mind. The more time spent intellectualizing and keeping the movement in the thought centers, the harder it is to let go and and have the movement become second nature, ime...

Rep Power: 7 | | That's why I like san sau (both randon and non-random). It keeps the movements in a lightweight physical context, ie, hitting someone, parrying a strike, getting a lock on, etc, so instead of thinking about it, you just DO it, so you don't get a fist smashing into your face.
The note taking's useful too, though. If only to prevent having the entire class doing the form over again because YOU messed up and then having them taking it out on you in sparring later. |

Rep Power: 39 | | | I start writing the notes after I learn the form to a sufficient extent, not during. But I find It does help me when I have to come back to a form that I haven't done in a while. |

Rep Power: 7 | | | I think to a large extent, If you want to catalogue your forms. Filming yourself would be the best way.
Written notes alongside the form sequence for certain concepts and ideas behind the movements, would also be helpful for archival purposes. |

Rep Power: 220 | | | Aye, I don't disagree with that.
IMO though, I like my body to know what to do before I do. Plenty of times in sparring or other and somebody does a quick move, you see it coming but before it fully registers what to respond with, your body is already acting to parry | |
