i study dragon style. it's a close ranged southern system that's mainly got hand techniques. not many kicks, just a few basic ones... i think ur after 5 animals though, but anyway...

about leapord and snake, i have absolutely no personal experience with it, but this is what i got from doc fai wong's book:

leapord: external and relies heavily on speed. aggressive and fierce, and has 'quick short stances designed to stabilise and produce strong, balanced stances...'
there's heaps more, but it's a long chapter to type out! from the pics it looks kinda medium ranged.

snake: internal and always aimed at vital points. uses both soft and hard power, and talks alot about developing the snake spirit, where ur really calm and quiet, relaxed, etc. um... looks medium ranged too, but the hands are away from the body, and seems to use alot of horse stance.

hope this helps.

The Snake attacks the same vital areas as Mantis. The difference is that the Mantis is very mobile moving from spot to spot, while the Snake is more mobile but engages in twisting of the body to change positions.

Leopard tends to go at the joints and the 'soft' areas of the body at least on a basic level. It has a primary fist and from what ive seen in many ways in the more boxing [though MUCH more complex] orientated of the animals.
I tend to think of it as the bridge between fist work and strict animal work.
One thing i notice and ive also read about leopard, there are basicaly no full blocks. Its always looking to strike and even when its bloking its sliding in to strike at the same time.
Leopards are smaller than tigers but at the same time are in many ways stronger for there size and definatly are a faster animal which uses speed and angle of attack as opposed to weight and leverage.
Thats just my observations though and im only really a intermediate student at best.
Snake is the finisher and is a deadly system which is very unforgiving, the stikes are at vital nerves and the application leaves little oppotunity to hold back and often the attacter basicaly hurts themselfs. Needless to say its more advaced so again I havent seen to much though have learnt a bit.
Dragon has been covered. Im from Hung Ga school btw so all these observations are coloured by my own system so should be treated accordingly.

One thing to note about Leopard..

The leopard is of the Tiger Family (styles) and uses a claw in it's grasping and manipulation of the opponent's limb during an attack.

To my knowledge what was just said was a pretty good description of the animals you were interested in, so I'll only add a little bit...

Snake: I haven't advanced to Snake level in my system yet so not much help here.

Leopard: The strikes are all at vital points (as earlier stated). It also uses a LOT of groin strikes. Like tiger its a little more external than internal, and very quick.

Dragon: Contrary to what was earlier stated the Dragon movements and Form I know use short and long techniques. Its a very internal system where one's arms simulate the wings of a dragon. There's a lot of hidden strikes and covers, leglocks, a BUNCH of gather & strike techniques, and it does have some kicks though like the Southern system they are somewhat low.

Hope that helps.
