During the last few years numerous martial artists have asked me repeatedly why it is necessary to study Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to gain a greater understanding of the martial arts. In my opinion, the answer is simple! Because the individuals that founded the majority of the martial systems, which are practiced today, utilized Traditional Chinese Medicine as their base of knowledge. Basically, think of the old adage, “When in Rome do as the Romans.” So, if we are practicing an eastern-based fighting discipline, then we need to at least know something concerning TCM. It is not an argument that the eastern-based systems where developed within the paradigm of TCM. Nor is it an argument that the various Oriental systems attacked what are commonly referred to as acupuncture points. Those that still doubt that should wake-up and smell the coffee! | ” | | |
