your country vs the rest of the world

what makes your country better than all other countries?
should those other countries change their ways?
what are the bad things about your country?
______________________________

I'll start...

>>what makes your country better than all other countries?

the Netherlands are better than the rest because we are the most liberal country there probably is
we've got legalized prostitution, a very open system for softdrugs (and no, it's NOT LEGAL!!! hard to explain how it works tho...), the right to make fun of everyone including the queen and her family and the government, we can say the F-word all day long on radio and tv and not get censonsorred, topless beaches are standard, not an exception (!!!!!!!!), you can buy porn everywhere (even in every gasstation!!!)

also we have good afforadable health- and dentalcare for everyone, good free scholing, no firearms, very little violent crimes

and of course we have the BEST standup FIGHTERS in the world!!!
there are only 15 mil people living here, but the Dutch have dominated ALL standup fightsports forever...
in no other country you'll find a guy like Peter Aerts who has been in ALL 13 K1 GP Finals....
in no other country there are more fighters that have WON those finals...

as a matter of fact we do pretty well in most sports for such a small country....

>>should those other countries change their ways?

well...
I think other countries should study our ways before they start making accusations towards our laws...
as i said, drugs are NOT legal here, but our system works in a way that softdrugs can be used and sold (with very strict conditions...) so the police doesn't have to arrest mils of teenagers, but can catch the bad people that import and sell cocaine. heroine etc. etc....
the system's not perfect, but works better than what I've seen in other countries (expect maybe for Malaysia... where they hang you for possesing any amount of drugs....)

>>what are the bad things about your country?

for years people kept all their feelings towards immigrants etc. inside, because it was not political correct to say something about that (old Dutch war trauma... everything you say against a certain group will make you a Nazi... )
now... when things go bad, all this comes out with a bang...
not good...

also...
since we try to keep everybody happy, our rules and laws have become way too complicated
therefor there are also way too many people working for the government trying to figure our which law is appropiate for every individual situation
which makes it all slow and un-organised and therefor ineffective

the worst thing about being Dutch tho...

is that our prime minister is Harry Potter....

We're the greatest country because we're better than everyone else, no matter what other countries say to try to prove how great they are, we're always better than them!

How many people from other countries come to live in America, and how many go to the Netherlands, England, etc. I think we definitely get the majority because of how great we are!!!

It's great to be great, especially when you're so great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ooh, an interesting one for this little island kid!

Ok, so what makes Guernsey (a self governing body, but not a country) better then all other countries?

Well, the fact that it is a 25 mile squared island to start with, so we often have on the front page of our newspaper "TEA PARTY FOR VERY OLD LADY!"

Or! "CAT FOUND DEAD! OWNERS BAFFLED!" Our island is fairly safe for the most part... i say most part though.

Not to mention we are a tax haven, so we can sit around all day and pay very little in the way of council tax, no product tax (VAT) and nearly no other taxes too! Wahey! Which also means we get loads of very rich people from all over the world constantly willing to pump extra cash into our economy.

We still have POUND NOTES! These bloody coins drive me CRAZY!

For such a small island, we have a lot of rock music!

Ok.. should other countries change their ways...

Well, in a lot of instances YES, but not to be like Guernsey. I'd be worried if the US stated one day "Yeah so we are going to like.. downsize... to 25 miles squared.. yuh..."

And whats bad about it.

Corruption! A government that was voted in by IDIOTS in Guernsey quite blatantly, as they voted for a man who pretty much STATED he wants to be a dictator. "I WANT TO BE IN CHARGE OF NEARLY EVERY ASPECT OF THE ISLAND, AND TO HAVE FIVE OTHER PEOPLE UNDERNEATH ME TO SAY YES OR NO TO MY DECISIONS, BUT I WANT TO CHOOSE WHO THEY ARE".... riiiiiight... you go ahead and do that and watch me leave and never come back. Also, dont forget the amount of bribery from Tom Scott, islands biggest turd! He owns every major shopping outlet in Guernsey, and Jersey as well! Pretty much putting a monopoly on the food industry. However it did inspire all the other national companies to come in with more force, and start making money off our boycott of the stupid fat idiot. Not to mention he has very outdated, archaic working practices. Making work in the island VERY awkward and pretty horrible. He also owns or controls most of the building industry, property market, and much more. Argh.

Also, we have the chavs!!!! A bunch of idiot kids who think they are GANGSTERS! On a 25 MILES SQUARED ISLAND!

THERE IS NO GHETTO IN GUERNSEY! FOR GODS SAKE! YOU IDIOTS! THE COUNCIL HOUSES ARE LIKE PARADISE!

Whats especially funny is to see them driving around in several grands worth of souped up car thats been mangled several times, and then REPAIRED FULLY again (you can still see where they crashed mind you) and they STILL act like ghetto gangsters! If you have parents.. who buy you souped up cars.. you arent a gangster. Now go and work in a bank you spoiled fool!

Argh, i could turn this into a rant about guernsey so easy. But i will stop now

I don't get this "My country" concept, I'm afraid.

I live in GB, I have a British passport, but I wouldn't call it "my country". Still, I've been here 15 years and haven't taken any of the oportunities to move on yet, so here goes...

Better:
They speak English. This makes it easier for me to work here. The public is generally very cynical and unenthusiastic about 'group' things. That means that while they are as stupid and greedy as people elsewhere politicians find them harder to manipulate. The currency is relatively strong. My wife can work here more easily than elsewhere. The police, while far from perfect, are not a bad as in many other 'developed' nations. Some parts of the country are very beautiful indeed. While there are plenty of serious problems it is pretty cosmopolitan. All the overenthusiastic, self-congratulatory idiots move over to the states sooner or later and we're done with them.

Other countries: Could learn a lot, but then who would we laugh at after we've done laughing at ourselves?

Bad things: overcrowded. Lots of very stupid people. Evil govt. Stupid speed limits. High taxation and poor return on investment. Massive public apathy. In many ways I'd rather be French.

Were one of the most multicultural countries and i couldt be f . . . bothered going on anylonger.

OK I'm going into a cliché here but...
We have on of the best meat in the world (Though I'm a vegetarian xDD lol)...Juicy beefsteaks as thick as your arm.
We have Dulce de leche!, Tango, and we invented the blood transfusion, the pen, and the bus.

Julio Cortázar. Jorge Luis Borges. Ernesto Sábato. Diego Armando Maradona. Enough said :P

We've been the first country in South America to abolish slavery, fought and defeated both the 1st and 2nd British Invasion with just our inexperienced and-back then- new militia and without the help of our mother country (It is one of the History facts noone can actually explain...)

You can see mountains, plains and mesetas, and not only will you find the highest peak in America (Aconcagua 6 959 mts) and the widest river in the world (Rio de la Plata 220 km at its mouth), but also the widest avenue (9 de Julio).
We have the deep jungles of Tucuman and Misiones, the sounds of silence in the altiplano of the North, the falls of 80 mts of height of the Cataratas del Iguazu, and the uproar of the melting of the Glaciar Perito Moreno.
You can also watch the Condor over the Andes and the mating of the Ballena Franca Austral at the Valdes Peninsula.
Most of the world’s marine wildlife reserves are located in Patagonia.

The literacy rate of about 95% is the highest in South America, and we have 24 national universities and many state and private universities.

The nightlife is amazing. People are very friendly and we are said to be one the best audience ever by bands such as The Rolling Stones, Metallica, etc.

what are the bad things about your country?
Well... where do I begin xD
Corruption. The dictatorship of the 1970s left sores in society that still fester and bleed. Corruption. Some of our most beautiful infrastructure is falling apart. Corruption. Economy which affects pretty much everything, but specialy culture and education. Unemployment. SOME parts of the city are pretty insecure. Corruption. Our eternal External Debt. Default. Piqueteros. Corruption in the gov, police, you name it.
Oh... and did I mention corruption? :P
