Rep Power: 69 | | | What are the rules for the sparring??? If you are going to randori with them according to traditional Judo rules, then obviously, they will have all the advantage........

And if they lock onto you or try a sweep/throw, throw a quick punch into their gut to knock out some wind, or pull/draw/fall back and pull them into a knee strike for the same purpose, then stomp them into submission!

Rep Power: 100 | | | A very simple move should not be forgotten: PUSH THEM AWAY. If someone tries to get hold of you, you can always do a hard, fast double hand push to the head, head and chest, or chest only, to get them off. Backwards, or to the side. Maybe you should forget about the head push, since this is DANGEROUS, depending on each persons strength level potentially lethal. Perhaps it's a good idea to think that you are practicing, and not fighting, so losing does not equal to any harm. If you rock someones head or spear their throat or eye, it could and will. Stick to moving and experimenting, quickly striking only enough to irritate and remind of this. Do not use longwinded lead kicks that my grandmother could exploit for a takedown.

Rep Power: 0 | | | thanks for the tips
i just talked to one of the judo guys last night, and they said that this will not have traditional judo rules, and will be "style vs style" submissive sparring. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | they said striking is allowed to an extent, but it would be moderated by the instructors meaning if i hit too hard, they hit too hard, etc, they will stop the bout. when the bout ensues to grappling, it will end with a tap out. so from what i'm getting from this is that i can use my kung fu, but they'll want me to do more grappling than anything. |

Rep Power: 30 | | Ok, what we look for when practicing judo...
Firstly, the thing we go for is grips, we can't do anything without grips apart from leg takedowns or scissor leg takedowns.
You do NOT want to block an incoming judoka hand, evade it. If you block, you are giving them your arm to grab.
If a judoka has grips on you, he will begin to walk you around the mat using all kinds of footwork to throw you off balance. Once you get off balance, you will hit the floor with an all-mighty bang Make sure you have good ukemi (Break falls!)
One tip: Don't let them sink into any pins, many judo hold downs are supremely effective; Scarf hold, upper 4 quarter hold (North/south), modified N/S, Side mounts.
If you get a joint lock done on you, do not try and resist it and not tap. If it's hurting, give up straight away. The best defence against something like an armbar, is to get hold of the sleeve of the arm that is being locked. So if your opponent is trying to break your right elbow, grab your right sleeve with your left hand. This makes them pull you on top of them, rather than bend ur arm!
Oh, and if they get a choke or strangle on you, grab your own collar to weaken it.
Last one: Don't struggle too much on the ground, you'll burn up so much energy!
Hope these tips help, if you want any more, post and I'll answer as best I can.

Rep Power: 3 | | | Hmmmm. They still have you at a disadvantage by their rules. One of the main purposes of striking is so that people can't grab ahold of you. If the striking is moderated, e.g., you can't hit as hard as you want, what is there to stop them from going in and grabbing anyway?
If a judo guy ghets ahold of you, you are screwed. So, don't let them get ohold of you. These guys will know just how to get you to the ground, so your job is to make doing that as difficult and painfull as possible.
If you can't hit hard... it ain't a fair fight.
Good luck. Don't let them touch you! |

Rep Power: 100 | | | CMA has plenty of stuff that deals with grabbing. You don't need to strike someone to stop him from throwing you, you need to disbalance them, pull them around on their own grip, move them around yourself, bump into them, etc, etc. All the stuff from moving step pushing hands.

Not always wise. If you move around too much you leave your feet open to leg sweeps. Moving in linear motion is especially susceptable to this! |

Rep Power: 100 | | | Look them right in the eyes without any sudden moves then once they are affixed to the stare swing your leg around behind their neck and rollup and over and sit on them. While doing this grab their jaws to hold them shut and lift upward. Then without letting go of the jaws take your free hand under their arm and roll them over on their back. Then rub their stomach and they will fall asleep as the blood rushes out of their heads.
.....Wait that’s alligators, ok never mind
