Rep Power: 100 | | | I would say, they simply have been BOUGHT for a "hilite video". The first two guys have no clue at all, and are even constantly laughing while being beat up. Perfect sign for a newbie who doesn't fight ever. The last guy moves as if he had some training, but doesn't even go for anything when the other guy simply rans backward. Not the deepest showing of Kyokushinkai either, usually they throw a lot more and harder. But, at least the "Kung-Fu" guys have brand new polyester "silk clothes", with the price tag hanging from the sleeves. A simple promo video. Of course, equally bad practitioners exist, a lot.

Better yet, we can avoid this kind of pointless, flamerific go-nowhere speculation. |

You're right. The idea of X vs. Y is always a pointless, flamerific go-nowhere speculation, that can never be proven and probably should be passively dismissed.
But I chose to engage the thread on a level where it could be dealt with.
If you don't want to - why are you posting here?
A "martial art vs. other martial art = lame" post would be very welcome, and valid.

Rep Power: 100 | | | Nothing wrong with X vs. Y. You just need to make X and Y a LITTLE specific. And you could naturally only reason how such a fight would look like, and the ups and downs of both. Not "who will win".

That is a good point, Nik. It is far more reasonable to approach it according to what that sort of fight would look like. I would modify my earlier statement to Unkotare accordingly.

Rep Power: 0 | | That clip that was posted before I have seen a couple times. Of what my Sifu told me of Drunken Kung Fu is that it is one of the hardest martial arts to master and it ussually takes expierience in other forms of kung fu.
And If you wanna see a cool clip of WC vs. Karate http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...=beimo&pl=true |

Rep Power: 36 | | | I am late gettin' on this thread, and want to address the Drunken Boxing in this post. I have seen the Drunken vs. Kyokshin before, and think it is pretty sad, a poor representation of CMA. I have some experince in the Drunken Immortal system. (VERY little, mind you!) I appreciate the physical prowess it takes to master such forms, and to be proficient at it. I have failed to see it ever utilized, by video or in person at tourneys. Who here has seen, or feel that they could utilize it. (I know that it would not look Jackie Chan-ish, but I am curious as to if it would work at all. |

I dont know much of it, but Ive been shown few basic techniques and they do work because they are very relaxed and you are never sure if they are kicking or just stepping, also often you think that theyve messed something up so you try and take advantage only to find that its a trap theyve laid for you. Also things come at you from different angles to what you are used to for example a flying kick that at the time of contact is about an inch of the floor with the leg extending up under your guard. The best way to deal with this stuff though it definately a no nonsense, back to basics approach. Just hit and kick them ignoring any of their trickery |

Rep Power: 0 | | | I have noticed at tournaments that in the lower ranks, the karate guy tends to win due to the "head on" hard style, which can be disconcerting to the newcomer. However, as the kung fu student improves I find that our learned patience and use of both hard and soft styles wins in the higher ranks. We are less likely to "charge" into a match. |
