The rest of him & his band isn't that good. But rather than whining about him, I do the same to him as I do Bon Jovi, Madonna, Rage Against the Machine, Dixie Chicks, etc... who get too politically big for their britches and for my tastes... Why not just listen to the music, ignore the politics? I LOVELOVELOVE Rage Against the Machine, even though they're CRAZY Left Wing and I'm pretty far to the right...When I want to hear things about politics, I listen to politicians, not musicians.

For me anyway when the music becomes a political statement, it qualifies as drivel & the music enjoyment is stripped right away. Music is music. Once it takes an unsavory turn (to me), it becomes useless. Talk about historical events, current events even politics as topic for lyrical content is fine. Take and/or preach a political stance or attempt to curry favoritism to a political standpoint by the artists... I'd just as soon listen to fingernails on a chalkboard.

I agree. Even worse than Bruce Springstein is Bette Midler and Whoopi Goldberg. Those two are the worst when it comes to politics. Entertainers should stick to just that.......entertain. When they try to push thier politics on others then like clfsean says "it becomes useless."

Ok, I'd agree I don't like preachy music but when it's done well I'm willing to listen to music that backs a point of view if it fits in well. "Sweet home alabama" or "Southern Man" I'll listen to either - neither is necessarily great music but it's not the political content of either that limits them for me.
