Look it up, there are numerous sources that verify the same thing, the guy testing him was a notoriously lazy individual and he fell asleep during Seagull's test and just awarded him the black belt. There are numerous sources who verify that and many have high ranks in Aikido and are well known names who do not create stories to slander or bolster their fame, unlike Seagull.











As far as his movies go, I liked Marked for Death, though that one was pretty sweet. Avoid The Patriot as that one just sucked and none of the fighting in it was even done by him

I'm glad to see that I have opened up a nice, juicy can-o-worms here at Dragon's List. Seagal's "technique" aside, his claims of mastery-however realistic or otherwise-do not excuse him for being a large, economy-sized douche. I may be wrong, but I think that is what the premise of the initial rant was all along: Steven Seagal's douchiness. So, Dog1, please relax and soak up the quite laughable information on the pony-tailed one, as if it were the rays of a warm spring sun. Could Seagal beat the crap out of the likes of someone like me or MH? Maybe...probably, who gives a flip? I feel confident that we are at least better-behaved individuals than he. Hopefully, even you are, my new friend. Aspiring to be like Seagal in the dojo, (while odd, yet who am I to detract from another's dreams?) is one thing. Defending his extracurricular activities, things ranging from possible rackateering, spousal abuse, assault, threats, etc., is a horse of a much different-and putrid-color.

teachers know if their students are black belt material way before the rank test - maybe the teacher was sleeping off a cold or a hangover - either way looking at seagulls movement its obvious hes a black belt and has been for years - ive seen incredible practitioners who were douches in real life cant argue that and many of them have huge egos and practice the dark side of the ma - im not going to defend his personal life which i know nothing about but hes a good practitioner which is separate from all that other juicy gossip - we all know musashi had issues, a bad man and was a cold blooded killer but as a ma he was exceptional

I have to agree with dog1.....he may have bad morals in his personal life but I think he has some good martial art skills, or at least he used to. I haven't seen much of him in the past few years. Seems like all his movies go straight to DVD now. I don't think his personal life should make your opinion of his martial skill. To be as confident in his fighting as he is and to make challenges like he has he must think he can back it up. Either that or he's an idiot.

Its pretty tough to evaluate skill from a YouTube thread or from Hollywood Motion Pictures. You actually have to cross hands with the person...of course many people have and have related those experiences.
