| Base Drills PlumDragon:
One of the things that I remind my students, is that drills are just drills. They are designed to teach the student about movement and motion. They are not true self defense examples, yet they can be worked to reveal profound understandings of the principles of combat.
The drill is what we call a base drill. A base drill is something so fundamentally simple that a beginner can work through it. After the base drill is practiced, then we run it through the "book". The "book" is a list of principles and concepts, that we use to apply to the drill, one by one.
For example, in Video 1 we will run that drill and apply the centre line concept first, then dimensional zones. Learning how to affect your attackers shape as that strike comes in will naturally lead to better angles, grips, pockets, triangles, and conclusions such as locking, disarming and more.
But once again, it starts simple, and easy to run. Then we run it through concepts. Finally, we will make it more self defense oriented.
Once again, thanks for the videos and thanks for the welcome!
