Rep Power: 127 | | Yeah, it's not too bad. It does affect my everyday life though.... thank goodness I'm in the IT field and don't need to write at all. But when moving things like servers (those who know realise how heavy those bastards are)..... it kills me. I know I can use my right hand to carry it, but I never do.... just another stupid thing on my part.
If I could do a few more things with my left hand, I think I wouldn't do the surgery either. But because of this injury, my striking game becomes one demensional so to speak. That bites.....
Why oh why did I jack it up in the first place...

Rep Power: 127 | | | So I went to do the pre ops yesterday. Dr. advised me as to what was his game plan and such. I asked a few questions and he answered them.
My first question was whether or not my knuckles would be visible again.... he said yes. Score one for Doc.
My second question, which was the most important to me was... will this affect the flexibilty in my wrist? Doc said no.... 2 points for Doc.
He then went on to tell me that my hand will be structurally stronger than ever before. Ding ding ding...... bonus points for Doc.
Suregery is set for next week Tuesday. I'm happy and excited that this will finally get taken care of. Doc wants me to schedule appointments with a physical therapist, but I can manage that part on my own.
Do I really need to schedule an appointment with a physical therapist?
I'm also wondering how long it will be until I can actually work on my palm training. Oh well, I'm looking forward to the road of rehabilitating my hand.... and moving on in my training.
ALRIGHT!!!

And yes, you should probably do the physical therapy.

first of all, why are you getting surgury? does it bother you? i severely broke my hand last year from punching a tree full force. the bones in the back of my hands broke, the bones that connect my hand to my wrist. after six months it felt fully healed but if i hit the heavy bag it would get painful after a while.
its been a year now and my hand is back to normal, i was able to punch hard things because i would hit a training post religiously each day, and i can once again do the things i used to with my right. yet i cannot strain it.
i suggest not putting anything unnatural like metal into your hand. it sounds cool, but there can be many things that will go wrong. i agree with the doctor, if its been so long, you shouldnt get surgery. its rather foolish, but oh well, its your hand after all, your post just kind of annoyed me a little bit.
no offense.

Huh?
Annoyed you a bit?
Really?
Why is that?
Is it because you're tough and strong and don't need surgery? Well I apologise in advance for being weak little ol' me. Actually, I don't even know what to say to your big comment.....
So you say you broke your hand last year huh? And that you regularly punch trees outside huh? Wow... look at the big strong dude, he's punching a tree with a broken hand. Your post is amusing as hell.

Silksword, you're wrong on so many levels. Even though you didn't have the balls/insurance to get your hand fixed, why the heck would you even think try to talk someone else out of corrective surgery? Until you present us with some orthopedic surgeon credentials, your medical opinion in this matter is worth slightly less than Saddam's Iraqi Dinar.
I had corrective surgery on my foot after 20 years. The after-effects of the surgery hurt like hell and it took nearly two years to fully recover, but is stronger than ever now. Having surgery on a load-bearing joint has got to be the worst. I do have a cool scar on my foot now......bonus!
Goodluck, Jawsman. Here's to wishing you a speedy recovery!

different strokes for different folks. i guess if you need reconstructive surgury for bruised knuckles go right ahead, dont matter to me. my friend had a metal rod put in his hand and he said its never been the same since. my hand is fine now, and it was ten times worse than your poor little bruised knuckles. shoulda just kept my big mouth shut anyway...

Rep Power: 160 | | | Good luck, and yes, you need the physio. Hand surgery can work miracles I wouldn't be able to use my right hand without it. Still not perfect because I cut short the physio when I was younger and stupider but three fingers that don't work perfectly is better than three fingers that might as well be fused.

Alright donkey. I was going to let my reply to yours sit, but because you opened your pie hole of a mouth again... I feel the need to reply.
First off, let me clarify what the deal is. Now you say that your hand was broke.... but my guess is that it was only a hairline fracture. Now fractures I've dealt with forever, they heal up just fine. What I am talking about is my 4th and 5th metacarpals being snapped in half. The snap was so bad, that the first Orthopedic surgeon couldn't even comprehend how I was able to use it, make a fist, etc.....
Bruise knuckles? Your stupidity kinda insults me, but then I realize that your stupidity is yours alone.
Wussy? LOL.... the day I broke my hand, I still showed up for class with my hand looking like a baseball glove. Still worked out, and have been ever since.
What is even more amusing is the fact that you seem like a keyboard warrior. Now you see my location in my bio, if you're ever in Sin City, let me know. Then we can figure out whose the wuss and who's not.
My apologies to the rest of the board members, but SilkDress got under my skin.....

Sounds like you had the metal rod put somewhere else. | |
