Rep Power: 143 | | | In the summertime I've found myself having tons of energy on 4 hours or less. In the wintertime I can't function without 8 hours. This wasn't the case when I lived in Fla. but since moving north it's become very noticeable.
If I'm not sleeping properly, my energy level in class falls way off.
The last few weeks I was getting 8+ hours but still waking up tired and being very irritable & moody all through the day. Was at the point where I was going to see the doctor about doing some sleep testing. Then honeybunny tells me he has been turning on the TV after I go to sleep & leaving it on all night... hmm ... problem solved.

Rep Power: 147 | | | Four hours is possible for reasonable periods with enough sunlight and the right training. Don't know any one who performs at peak with less than four over time and I know people doing a lot of stuff that cuts down the need for sleep...

Aye, it's partially stress/ partially related to a medication they have me on that as a side effect causes insomnia, and unfortunately it's one of the only few that actually works so...
The first week is the worst, after, your body adapts and you learn how to function and as such have still been able to maintain all functions of my job with no consequence...

Rep Power: 13 | | | I saw a report a few years ago (and I'm stating now that I don't remember where I saw it or who the research was done by or exactly how accurately I remember the details of it is so please no getting on my case about that. I also realize that all of this is very good reason to completely disregard my comments and if you do thats fine I probably would do the same if this was posted by some one else, but if you want to look into it you can, or if you know anything of the study, or similar ones you can add) . The report was about how during the teenage years people need 7-8 hrs of sleep per night, but after about 18-20 years we really only need about 4-6 hrs to function at a normal pace. and they said that 8 hrs may be too much for some and make you more groggy. I think they said it had something to do with the teenagers still developing and how your body is working harder through the night or something. As I said i really don't remember all that much of the details.

Rep Power: 28 | | I only generally sleep 6 hours. Even if I have really partied, 8 hours max. Once my brain realises the sun is up, it starts clunking into action and I can't stop it.
I go according to what I'm feeling though. If I am exhausted by 8pm, then I will sleep ( then prolly wake up at 3am or something wondering what happened.). If I can't sleep till 5am, then I make use of my time till I feel sleepy.
Your body will tell you what it needs.
I have a friend though, very bad sleeping habits. He basically stays up all night on his pc, like through till 9am the next morning, then he will sleep till 5 - 8 pm then do it again. That is, if he's not trying to break the insomniac record again. He thinks he's healthy cause he's skinny, but he hasn't played soccer or anything since he was a kid. I wonder why he has trouble maintaining 9 - 5 jobs . He is also late for EVERYTHING.

Rep Power: 2 | | | About six-hrs. or so,...is good for me, Plus I do a half-hr. NAP at about mid-day. Also, try this chi-gong sleep-method. Lie on your back with your hands at the middle & lower dan-tiens'(men left-hand at lower dan-tien, women right-hand at lower dan-tien),..and put the soles of your feet together,..it is a very restful, deep, warm sleep.
