Rep Power: 220 | | | Ouch! My Kidney!:( Have any of you ever suffered a bruised kidney?
I was doing some group-sparring Wednesday, a group vs. one person, and of course it got interesting to say the least considering we go pretty hard core contact. Any ways, while blocking one, striking another, and throwing a warding kick at another, the person I threw the kick at managed to grab my leg and trap me so I threw my-self behind him to use him as a shield untill I could break free, but one of the others managed to land a solid elbow, punch,or backfist(don't really recall what he hit me with) into my kidney.
At the time I didn't feel anything other than a good blow to the back, but no pain, later that night still didn't feel to much other than slightly sore, it was the next day that oh boy did it hurt and feel uncomfortable.
Now it hurts to turn, there's a lot of pain and pressure on the kidney, and at times my mood is slightly off(a sign of an internal/organ injury). I know enough of injury maintainence etc. etc. etc. to know it is nothing worse and to take it easy, but I'm wondering if any of you have expereinced this before and how long it took to recover, what, if anything, special to do to help recover from it, etc.?

Rep Power: 220 | | Aye, I would have gone sooner but he was on vac. so can't get there till Mon/Tue. The other option would have been go to the E.R., but my Insurance co-pay on E.R. visits is so dang high that I wouldn't even bother going if I got shot.
So it's wait and see...

Rep Power: 46 | | | Ouch ! doesn't sound like fun. I suffered internal bruising in a bike wreck a few years back. It took a week or two to fully recover. Rest is good, but not so much that you stiffen your self. Keep somewhat active.
Did you try a web search for remedies ?
good luck, I hope it's not serious.

We, shihings & shifus at least, tend to spar close to full power but just short of over-destructive capability, and had the blow landed anywhere else I most likely would have been without injury due to our conditioning practices, but it's hard to condition that area of the body. And as I was fighting the brother who had my leg from his rear, as I went to his back to break free of his lock on me, my other brother managed to land a good one on me while I was otherwise occupied.

Wow,thats some pretty hard sparing. I wish you a speedy recovery. I have had many broken ribs over the years and have found that injury to be one of the most bothersome. Hurts with every move and even each breath. You should remain concious of your breathing. One tends to breath very shallow with broken ribs to avoid pain. After time this shallow breathing will become common practice. Force yourself to return to normal breathing asap.

Rep Power: 41 | | Mei man, you need to work the abdominal breathing, that's what my brother in law teaches heart surgery patients during post op. Got to breath and not engage you chest (as much).
On the plus side you'll be able to focus on your IMA
Heal well my friend!

Rep Power: 4 | | | I agree with Hazmat I had 2 broken ribs after being bucked off of a horse it hurt for weeks the only way I was able to breath was through abdominal breathing it expands the belly and not so much stress on the ribs like it does when you breath by expanding your chest after a while I found it very energizing you get alot more oxygen that way ,your diaphraghm is able to pull in more air. If you watch a baby breath, they breath with their belly its actually a more natural way of breating .
as we grow older we get more concerned with how we look and we use our chest instead of the belly because it looks better
wish you a speedy recovery |

I've always breathed through my belly. When ever I breath with my chest I get breathless and tired easily.
