It works for hamsters. If this can be repeated in sufficient tests, and proved for humans, it could be a massive breakthrough with tremendous potential. http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/st...730298,00.html

well...
after the test with an anti-inflammatory drug that went terribly wrong.....
I don't wanna know what can happen if a test with nanotech goes wrong...
btw...
testing drugs and that kinda stuff on humans has never been the same after reading Stephen King's Firestarter....

Rep Power: 220 | | | Nanotech is great and has tremendous potential, but more should be provided and allowed for stem-cell.
I saw a recent study on how stem-cell can potentially repair people that are crippled, they crippled mice and then put stem-cells in the mice's spines, who then regained the ability to walk!
Still some time for working on humans, but the human trials will start soon, and at this early of a stage it would not be a complete recovery, but it still would be enough for someone who's crippled to be able to have more freedom of movement.

Rep Power: 160 | | Stem cell research has huge potential, the range of benefits from promising tests is astounding. The problem is the political implications - nanotech is completely safe politically right now.
The potential risks are obviously an issue - all the more reasons for extensive animal testing first. I can't help thinking of treatments where the side effects have become the main use, though

Agreed, you also have to think about how many " new" medications that are created to deal with problems actually cause more severe problems in the long run. I forget the name right now, but there is a new medication which has the side effect of causing lymphoma(cancer), wow! sign me up!
It would be nice if nanotech, and hopefully in the future stem-cell, would be the main route for curing/fixing health concerns...
*Edit*
Proof of how some medications cause more severe problems than what they are supposed to alleviate

Real-life X-men and Dr. Octopusses ... OH, and of course, Resident Evils Nemesis.

I up for it!
This whole subject makes me wonder about the affects on the planet. If people started living to 300 years old we would have massive overpopulation and thats going to lead to nasty stuff. I would be interested to see what someone who had practiced Taiji for 200 years could do though.

1) Over popluation is one thing that is hardly ever mentioned or even concided in many of these cases. Look at the damage that we're already doing to our planet with the people we have now! Think about how many people there are in the world who starve to death every day because they don't have any food to eat. I think that instead of spending so much money on "finding a cure for cancer" we should spend that money on feeding those who have nothing to eat! It just seems selfish to me; the people with the money use it to help themselves instead of helping people with their more pressing issues. Just as a note; I've witnessed first hand the pain and hardship of cancer and other diseases... But that's just my oppinion in a nut shell... don't want to bring this too far off topic here...
2) TC for 200 years?....um....he'd be able to make a man's turn to liquid just my breathing on him! lol
