Rep Power: 155 | | | It certainly is for me.
Even in my heavy weight days though, topping off a night out with a "wee dram" in strong coffe with cream was the signal for a hangover only paddling an icy scottish river could cure.

Rep Power: 9 | | | I dunno what it is but I can't find myself sleep and sometimes I can have enegry for hours continious and I won't sleep for let's say one day and a half and that includes staying up all night. (Yesterday and Now)
I feel horrible durring the day but sleeping doesen't hit me like it should.
Am I an Insomniac. I Started used Heavy training to make myself Sleepy and I can train heavy for a long time now compared to my usual Short time. It's like a Curse but kind of a gift.....but more of a curse.

Rep Power: 13 | | OK, so what do you want? Do you want to shift the time you sleep to the night? THe best way of doing that is discipline with when you get up.
If you want to tame the hyper energy there are ways (I had this in August from some training I had just started - needed about 3 or 4 hours of sleep a day, barely ate anything. Felt great most fo the time, but when I woke up (PING) at 3.30 my vision was a bit weird for a few seconds as hyper energy clicked in). The best that I know comes from the yoga tool box: long holds of forward bends and viparita karani ( http://www.yogadancer.com/Pages/Sarv....shtml#Salamba )
If you are interested then I can give you more detail. NB the results come from the energetic results of the poses not from some sort of 'general relaxation' that yoga is meant to bring about. This stuff is powerful and works, but you have to make a bit of effort to learn it.

That does effect sleep, I went through a bad bout just a little while ago and didn't sleep for weeks.

Rep Power: 13 | | that's kind of what I was thinking of (though would replace plough with legs up the wall - same energetic effect, less risk for non-yogis). I managed to knock a potential bad night dead the other day with legs up wall and some long forward bends (I had some coffee liqueur which was made with real coffee which makes me badly ill, and woke up at 2 am feeling awful and very awake, so I did my taiji long form, some long holds of forward bends and then legs up wall, and the nausea and headache stopped and I slept solidly for 7 hours more. Much more use to me that silly fricking balls of energy coming out of my hands)
Some of the links are down, and the best place for pictures is this. http://www.yogadancer.com/Asanas.shtml

Rep Power: 155 | | | I can't take coffee either T, caffiene of any sort. Can make me really, seriously ill. An effect of yoga+tai chi? Certainly I had no problems before starting a daily practice.
If you are depressed be very careful with any yoga routine for insomnia. They will favour forward bends which tend to encourage introspection as well as calm. You would definitely need to balance an insomnia practice with some backbending in the morning - which would also be a useful balance to the body shape generally developed by TCMA.

Rep Power: 13 | | | I can take caffeine in green tea, but that's about all I have (1 cup a day). My TCM practioner (who taught me my yi jin jing) told me I would have to give up coffee if I did it, which made me think 'yeah, right' (as I love the taste and esp the smell), but within 3 months I was simply unable to drink coffee in any form - including the small (I suppose) amounts that had got into this drink. So was ditch the yi jin jing or ditch the coffee. I do yi jin jing every morning. I never had any problems with my yoga practice.
Ideally SD needs to go to a viniyoga person with ayurvedic training OR a good TCM person who can sort out whatever issues are going on, but what can you do on the net - answer the question you were given.

Rep Power: 9 | | | I wanted to shift the Day into normal night time hours. No it's not that I'm depressed or anything. I was love struck for a little while but I'm over it now. I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I will try the Yoga positions and I avoid caffeine as much as I can because I think it will keep me up.

Rep Power: 13 | | OK, if you are fairly OK the way to do it (from my experience with jet lag - I have lived all over the place and have had to get used to shifting time zones)is stay up for like 30 hours - and then do the yoga, sleep and use an alarm to get you to wake up. The key is getting up at the time you decide - everything else will fit round that in a few weeks.
For the yoga I'd say the key ones are these: http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/478_1.cfm (but don't try to look like the picture - just relax forward, bend your knees a bit if you like). The idea with all of these is to RELAX, so don't go and strain yourself... WIsh I could pop over and show you how... http://www.yogadancer.com/Pages/Pasc...ana.shtml#Full (works great in a moderate version with your head resting on a chair - I'm having a bath and then doing that: had a buzzing yoga class today to the extent I got on the wrong metro by mistake... AGain don't copy the picture - work to where your body is http://www.yogadancer.com/Pages/Sarv....shtml#Salamba (you don't need the bolster - I don't normally bother) http://www.yogadancer.com/Pages/Savasana.shtml#Corpse
this is the badger. Two nice things to do: (1) imagine the breath is the sea, washing in and out, washing away all tension and stress (2) relax all off your body with your mind - esp the throad and lower back (where we often clench). the tense and release thing is fairly recent - C19th as I remember and it's from western esotericism, not the yoga tradition, but it works for a lot of people (I don't like it)

Rep Power: 2 | | | I had the same exact problem, different situation though. My doctor put me on meds for depression i hate him by the way, and since it was a stimulant i coulden't sleep at all. I tried everything, Kava kava, Valerian root, chamomile tea, and a bunch of other stuff. I found out it wasen't me it was the drugs my doctor gave me, which made me feel worse after all because i couldn't sleep, they like to make me there test subject I've come to the conclusion. Try meditation find out what really is going on in your head.

That could be your problem if it was really serious. It might sound a bit out there, but I have had very good effect in treating this kind of insomnia. What happens is that the part of your system that is helping you relate to people gets knocked out of balance. This creates a kind of hypertension similar to stress or anxiety. It can last for a really long time, even after the initial cause has passed. It can also leave you emotionally sensitive or insensitive. Beeing over sensitive to impressions and/or having a hard time trusting people.
There are tons of reasons for not sleeping so it all depends on the surcomestances. |

According to yogis it would get released by opening/cleansing the lower chakras... one of the effects of some of the postures in those insomnia practices. I tend to agree with ST though, if you do the postures right it doesn't matter about the esoteric stuff because it will just happen.

Be prepared for funky, weird reams though. | |
