Rep Power: 53 | | | Bodywork??? So who out there gets regular massages, acupuncture, chiropractic etc. Why or why not?
I get all three regularly, mainly for rehabilitation and workout recovery, but also because i love it.

Rep Power: 0 | | | The question to me is Why NoT!? I also get all three and as an OT, I also give myself ultrasound. Lately I've been getting bodywork due to injury and preparing for golden gloves, but I need a few days off after a treatment cause I'm slugglish, and my ability to take days off are diminishing as I increase my training.
Enjoy it while I can! |

Rep Power: 141 | | i need more massages thats for sure
i get a recurrant scrunched up right shoulder
i do alot of stretching
but i find that there is nothing that quite gets to the root of the issue
like a good massage
i've been give a laptop to use until the computer i have been ordered arrives
and it is causing all sorts of problems with my shoulder and neck
which in turn effects my training
which in turn makes me get a massage

No money. I really need to work something out though because my back is so messed up and I can't just keep ignoring it. And good luck with your training - that's awesome! |

Yep, working on my license/schooling. For an easy home remedy for sinuses, try to have someone press on the little rise on the center of your forehead just below your hairline (assuming you have hair..) , it can take quite a bit of pressure, but this works for many. I use it after people have been lying face down on the table for a while.

Ya, the no money part sucks... best to find a massage school - much cheaper rates and I've always had a good treatment. Sometimes you can find students giving free massages at a local gym to get their minutes in. Good luck. What have you tried for your back so far? |

Rep Power: 53 | | | The schools are definitely the way to go if you're short on funds, but it is usually customary to tip your therapist, esp. those broke students...
One thing to remember though is that muscles always work as teams, with prime movers and antagonists opposing each other, and like a tug-o-war, only the losing team cries. So for example Pope's shoulder; i imagine it is also rolled forward slightly, making his right palm face rearward (just a common condition, i could be way off), if so just working the sore muscles will only provide temporary relief. Release of the pectoralis muscles, esp. pec minor may provide more lasting benefit. So Pope, have you tried stretching those? You know stand in a doorway with your arms on the frame and lean forward?

Rep Power: 17 | | Thanks for the tips about the schools. Will definitely check that out. And Mountainspring, so far the only thing I've done is go to a chiropractor once (over a year after I first hurt it ). That didn't really seem to do anything at all. He didn't take x-rays, just adjusted me and gave me some exercises to do to strengthen the muscles down my back and around my ribs (can't remember the name of the muscles that control your breathing?).
I took a week or two off around Christmas, didn't work out, stretched a lot, which definitely gave me some relief. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | I know that I tend to neglect my back muscles in a workout- reminds me that I need to add some good ones. I did Iyengar yoga for a year and loved it, however got lots of pulled muscles from going too deep. My teacher pushed me. Just a caution. There are really good chiropractors out there, also want to try rolfing, but thats expensive! When I hurt my back the last time, I went to a good chiro 6x, and then tried Aleve - and wouldn't ya know, no more pain with a few days of that. Of course I rested too. Good luck. |
