Microwaves

What does everyone think about microwaves? Do you trust them with your food or do you believe they do funky stuff that is best to stay away from?

I could care less about the food, they serve a greater purpose for science and space exploration.

HaHa, we use microwave antennas for research, they see alot more in space then other things, as so much that exists out there gives off tons of microwave radiation, but hey! People in space need to eat like the next guy, and how are they going to cook a space................(fill in blank with your choice of food substance) without using a microwave?

For the ovens - don't know hoe cooked by microwave can be different from cooked by oven but they make baked potatoes taste different. Also, they tend to leak way more than they say on the back. Get a geiger counter and check - all the ones we tested were not something I'd like to have running in my kitchen.

I don't know where exactly he got this information but my grandfather is a pharmacist of 40 years. He had a research paper that stated that microwaved food is looks like an infection to the body. That when you ingest it the body sees it as an active substance like bacteria or a virus and it immediately sends white blood cells to the absorbtion point. Then the body treats it like waste and doesn't actually break it down. Like I said I never read the paper but my grandfather researches things like this a lot and is very knowlegeable about natural suppliments and healthier ways of living. So take from that what you will.

I don't mind using it to warm food up ... but not cook. Doesn't quite taste the same.

I think the biggest problem with microwaves are that they heat stuff up too fast. When cooking something I think it's best to go slowly so that mistakes can be avoided.

maybe some of you know this but here goes anyway............microwave ovens are a direct result of Radar technology.......Radar technicians used to keep there cups of tea on the Radar machines because it kept them warm...........the reason for this is that hydrogen atoms vibrate at the same frequency as microwaves....as almost all food contains water (thats H2o, 2 hydrogens and an oxygen) then its possible that firing microwaves at food will agitate the hydrogen and hece warm up the food............in a conventional oven the radiation used to agitate the molecular contituents of the food is infrared, which vibrates at a lower frequence and as such acts on bigger "groups" of atoms (molecules)........

an interseting point here is that the "microwaves" used in microwave ovens are in the same frequency range as mobile phone transmissions........!!!!!!!!............boiled brain anyone?

i dont use a microwave for the reasons John100 gave......they are radio active.........also if the food is not allowed to relax after cooking you risk cooking your inards............................................ ......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...........

Quite right Wingnut, so therefore items with more water cook quicker.

I think this also explains why things cook from the inside, out. The insides are cooler, and contain more water due to this (Lower effect from the room temperature)
