Rep Power: 15 | | | Gaining weight I'm never going to take a dieter seriously again, as hard as losing weight is, gaining it is near impossible.
Been eating much as I can and working out every other night for about 2 weeks now.....
using diet supplaments, upped calorie intake, cut back on my long distance running/cycling and stopped eating most sweets.
wanna know how much my 2 weeks of hard work have got me?
4 pounds, I freaked out when I found out how slow this process is.
Somehow I must burning to many calories, because I simply cannot imagine eating anymore.
/rant
So, does anyone have any ideas how to put on some poundage fast (at a healthy pace anyway)?
thanx

Rep Power: 23 | | | Depends on the type of weight you're trying to gain, if you just want to gain weight then just eat burgers, beer, deepfried foods, everything that tastes good but really isn't great for you. But if you're trying to gain muscle mass, then you're going to have to get used to the fact that it takes forever to do naturally.
I tried to gain muscle mass a while ago, took; weight gainer, whey, glutamine, casein, multi's, and ate almost constantly. Two and a half months later I had gained about 20 pounds, and around half of it was just fat.

I'm 71 inches, 154 pounds at about 6-8% bodyfat. I need to gain weight for the heavy shells I'll be loading for 2 years and 17 weeks and I have a couple months to bulk up.
So if I wasn't meant to be big, genetically, I'm screwd
I picked up some weight gain stuff, a shake that adds about 1000 calories a day. I'm still working out everyday (pull ups, pushups, situps, lunges and running) So I dont expect to gain much fat. And as I said, I'm eating like a bear.
hope it all works out.

Rep Power: 5 | | | size is not synonomous with strength, proof? olympic weightlifters commonly do triple bodyweight lifts
tell me your goals and i can help you, by the way, 4 pounds in 2 weeks is good, you have to take into account not just total caloric intake, but the macronutrient ratios, protein, carbs and fats have specific functions, so how you manipulate will effect how your body composition changes.
by the way, if it is genetic, there are many factors to take into account, you can gain weight, but the speed will vary depending on this, are you skinny? average? fat?
also the stimulus you place on your muscles will determine the response aswel (as i mentioned in the first sentence to a degree), wat rep range / sets you using? are you using weights? etc, think of as many questions as you can, then PM me (i dont go on here much, if at all), and ill help you.

Honestly, I'd cut down from working out everyday and instead use weights 3 times a week. Overtraining prevents weightgain, the key to success is knowing that you have to give your body time to recover and grow.

Rep Power: 0 | | | I find that gaining weight is not a problem for me. If I lift heavy weights and go on a sasquatch diet (of ice cream, fried chicken or anything else that comes in my way) I can easily put on around fifty pounds. This would also make me very strong! My squat, bench press and all major lifts would go up. The only problem is that I will be gaining fat along with muscle which will slow me down.
To gain muscular strength and to avoid getting ugly layers of unwanted fat, I would eat 200 grams of protein daily (I weigh 190 lbs). I would lift weights 3 times a day and do intense cardio 3 times first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. I would eat clean food 6 - 7 times a day avoid fried stuff and eat carbs mostly in the morning. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | One more important thing! Stay away from mega calorie weight gainers! They are the biggest load of crap I have ever been on. They increase calories by putting carbs and starch. While this is good source of energy, you cant make muscle out if this and the only weight you gain with these is around your belly. They are not muscle builders, they are belly builders.
A more effective way of gaining muscular weight is using protein drinks and creatine. With these whatever you gain is mostly muscle. | |
