True -- but getting sugar in as close to its natural state as possible is better for your body. Refined cane sugar is processed super-quick by your body, so fast that the pancreas has to catch up, and it can produce more insulin than necessary. So you get a huge boost and then a big let-down. Natural sugars, as unrefined as possible, process a bit more evenly. Raw honey (not that filtered, boiled-down stuff) has several benefits beyond its sugar content and the body absorbs it more easily. Fruit provides fiber & vitamin C and lotsa nutrients plus sugars. Sugar cane can be peeled & chewed on (depending on how good your teeth are LOL), you could chew it for hours and not get a tenth of the sugar that's in your average soda.
Well -- they don't even use sugar in soda now, it's high fructose corn syrup, which I've heard is even worse for your body than table sugar.
Anyway -- ever have sugar cane grilled shrimp? Yum!

I just started a diet last week where I cut out HFCS. I don't know if I'll keep it up but I'll defiently not eat a lot of it. If you're going to eat the stuff you need to make sure you get enough copper and fiber. Then it may not be too too bad for you. Its in almost everything now because it cheaper than sugar. |

Like the preverbial bear, stealing honey from the bees, Spud has a tendancy to steal honey from his Sifu's private stash!

Rep Power: 21 | | Honey is good for alergies. Its has to be collected fromwithin about 50 miles of where you live or be from an area with the same plants to be effective though. You can also build a restance to alergies to anywhere on the planet all you need is Honey from the area.
I am hopeing to get some honey bees some day. I've done a lot of research about it. |

Rep Power: 0 | | Tea sweatened with honey is healthier than the one with sugar, because the liver transforms the sugar into something I can'r really remember... so qhen making tea you can say honey is healthier than sugar, I don't know...
I'm a vegetarian so I really enjoy eating veggies and fruit ^^
Spinach, strawberries, fresh orange juice, tomatoes, basel, garlic and olive oil (not sure how healthy the last two are, though...) are the things I love the most
(And yes, my family is italian xD)

Rep Power: 153 | | | My fiance taught at an adult education center out in Boston Harbor for awhile, and the school had a farming program. All organic herbs, veggies, and raw unfiltered honey made right out there on an isolated island.
Most of the food was given to homeless shelters, but they would have a farmer's market a few times in the summer. The trick is getting out to the island to buy the stuff! At any rate their honey is some of the best I've ever tried, they don't make very much so I was lucky to get 1 big jar a year. And this year we didn't make it out there for the market, so I'll have to find another source for raw honey.

Ditto. I've got a jar of honey at work, sitting beside my canister of gunpowder tea. The best quality tea available with the healthiest sweetener. What a combination to wake myself up when I drag into work at 6:30 each morning. (I can't claim to be using the best honey available, though. I'm using the inexpensive store-brand stuff)
I do occasionally get questioning looks from people who aren't so knowledgable about tea and see a cylinder on my desk labeled "gunpowder". |

lol xD
Well....I agree with you guys on the honey, but it has waaaaay too many calories.
So I just use very little like... once a week. The rest of the time I just use Nutrasweet... I know that stuff will kill me someday, but I can't help it... it's so... sweet (?)
Anyways, that's like THE most unhealthy "food" or whatever that I consume
