Rep Power: 20 | | | how much is too much? I know that when you are pregnant your not supposed to drink alcohol at all. I know that doctors dont know how much is needed to give signs of FAS. I was trying to look it up on the internet, but I couldnt seem to find any information on the odds that if you had a drink or two in the first month or so that the child would suffer from the birth defects or symptoms of FAS. I only want to know because the last time I had any alcohol was either just before or just after my child was concieved. I don't remember how much I had but I know it was no more than 2-3 jello shooters and "possibly" one glass of something with vodka or rum...I dont remember, as i'm now 8 months along and I wasn't really thinking about it that night. I've been trying to find out the info on line now for a while, but for some reason I can never find what I'm looking for when I search no matter how specific or broad I make the search request. If any of you know the odds, or were in a similar situation or know anything about this kind of stuff I'd like to hear what you have to say.
Also, is it ok to have a drink every now and again if your breast feeding, or should you stay away from it all together? I'd never get drunk, but a drink or two on a holiday or something would be nice. |

Rep Power: 64 | | | I can move it there if you'd like, but this is "The Lounge" and it wouldn't hurt.

Rep Power: 64 | | | Lounge gets more traffic to be sure, but if people hit the "New Posts" link, it shows all recent posts across the entire site, so it should be fine here.
TKDWarrior and Allen Tsang are some resident nutrition gurus, try sending a PM to them if you like.

Rep Power: 41 | | | I would just call your doctor's office and ask the head nurse, or your doctor, they should be able to answer your question readily.

Rep Power: 87 | | | I was very careful with my first. I loosened up with my second. A glass of wine or beer with a meal maybe a handfull of times. I can remember craving margaritas though.....

Rep Power: 100 | | | I think you should be fine. I think the FAS comes from swilling shots every day...not from a few drinks before you even knew you were pregnant. Also, from what I've read, it's fine to have a glass of wine every now and again when you're pregnant. You's be surprised at the things you can take that won't have any effect on your baby. (supposedly)

Rep Power: 46 | | | I can guarantee, you'll get the "A few every once in a while might actually be good" and "A few once in awhile is not bad" and "Steer clear alltogether to be on the safe side". If you were injected with a vile of what they tell you is a debilitating drug, would you become weak at the mere suggestion ?.......even if the vile was actually filled with sugar water ?

we had some parties before my wife found out she was pregnant of our first son...
and those involved some HEAVY drinking
I can asure you she was completely wasted and had a major hangover after that...
and he's one of the smartest kids I've ever seen...
thought himself to read at the age of 3
loved books by Stephen Hawkins when he was 5 (or 6)
etc. etc...
so...
don't worry....
worrying is probably worse than the alcohol you used back then...
good luck to you and the baby!!!!
