Its not to bad huh? I think the peanut butter really helps out with the taste.

And there is nothing wrong with creatine. I used to use it and it helped my overall performance a great deal. The only thing that I didn't like about it was that it made me break out on the back of my neck a little, but nothing serious at all. This went away as soon as the creatine was out of my system (about 1-2 weeks after stopping). But the results were fantastic. I think it also has to do with the kind you get. A lot of creatine products are absorbed and used by your body more so than others. A lot of it comes out in waste (piss). I used cell-tech. It was kind of expensive, but you also don't have to use to amount they tell you. If you go by their method...you use a $35 jar in 1 week for the "loading", and 2 $35 containers a month. I don't remember correctly, but I think they said to use like 4 servings a day for that first week. I never did that. I only used one serving, one time a day. I drank half the drink while I was doing my heavy training and finished the drink after I completed the work out. I then followed the creatine drink with a protein shake. This worked wonders for me. And I made the tub of creatine last like a month...so I got my money's worth.

I've went from 370+ to about 330 or so at the moment, I don't know the exact weight, just that there are several inches off my waist which is far more important than some specific weight amount.

Exercise wise the mix of cardio and resistance exercise is very important. The cardio will burn lots of calories, the resistance will increase your overall metabolism as well as increasing your ratio of muscle to fat.

I disagree with the comments about meat, Protein is a priority in my diet, and meat is my main source, there are plenty of recent studies that show that a high protein diet keeps you from losing muscle with decreasing your calorie intake, and I consider that critical for anybody, because maintain a good muscle mass is important for many other health reasons as well as your metabolism.

There are three things that I seek to avoid in my diet at all costs, this is not just due to a desire for weight loss, but also for long term health reasons.

1. refined grains, white flour, etc, enough said
2. refined sugars
3. trans fatty acids (aka partially hydrogenated oils)

I eat a lot of dairy products, because they have a lot of protein and calcium and there have been many recent studies showing links between dairy consumption and weight loss, you can google it if you wish.
I focus on eating dairy, meant, vegetable, fruits, and nuts, all of these things are dense in nutrition, I add some whole grains for variety, but still keep it limited. But I absolutely avoid the three above mentioned because they are just fillers, no nutritional benefit (except calories, of course) and bad for you.

An example of what I eat

16 ounce glass of milk for breakfast (plus coffee with baking chocolate, you should check out the health benefits of chocolate, and antioxidant and magnesium levels of coffee)

lunch, a sandwich made with whole grain low carb bread with extra fiber in it, usually turkey meat, but it could be any kind, this past week it's been pork roast, 2 slices of cheese, some romaine lettuce, and a grapefruit for desert. If I'm in a rush and didn't make a sandwich, I'll take a small thing of raisins and a half cup of nuts for lunch.

mid afternoon snack of an apple.

Evening meal -Portion of meant, 2 pork chops, or 2 chicken breast, or a medium steak, or an omelette, whatever, plue a "health shake" put water, 1 raw carrott, 1 cup blue berries and cherries or other berries, 3 cups frozen spinach, 2 cups of brocolli crowns, 1 scoop of protein shake, 3 table spoons of flax seeds, 1 quarter cup of nuts (any kind) the exact recipe just varies for what's on hand, alternatively, I'll make a veggie and meat stew or have a salad or some green beans with my meat.

One more thing..... I take the weekend off and eat whatever I want.......I meant I don't have cake and pie for every meal, I just eat normal food, like Chinese and pizza and stuff.

I think it's important not reduce your calories by too much or your metabolism will just slow down way too much, the weekend munching helps keep my metabolism pumped up.

Exercise, I spend 15 minutes walking up and down steps on my lunch break, 30-45 minutes on an eliptical machine at the end of the work day, then I try to take a 20-30 walk with my wife and dog as many days a week as possible. I work out at Cam's twice a week (ideally!) and work out with kung fu/ punching bag rounds at my house on nights I'm not there. twice a week I do my stone lifting exercises, also involving sledge hammer exercises, and body weight stuff, push ups, sit ups, etc.

Every day I'm not at Cam's I do 10 kicks on each leg on the bag with each kick, usually about 7 0r 8 different kicks, 3 three minute rounds on the punching bag if I'm lifting stones, 5 three minute rounds if I'm not, then the Tai Chi form, some tai chi drills, some xing yi, review some kung fu forms, stretch, etc. On the weekends I give my body some rest, though I my still go walking, or go hiking or something.

Anyway, don't know why you are cutting but make it a lifestyle change instead of short thing. ps, at the moment I'm looking at a target of 250 - 275 pounds range, we'll see!

I thought you posted something a while back about trying to lose weight, but also mentioned it was pretty hard for you (correct me if I'm wrong)? If it was you, congratulations on eating healthy and losing weight. Most people just say they want to, it's great to see there are people that actually go and do it.
Also, I'd say advice from someone who is actually trying to lose weight, and succeding, is probably better than advice from someone like me who kind of knows how to eat healthy, but has had a high metabolism and not a bit of excess weight all his life.

Good point philip. You know...I would like to think that I know how to help an overweight person lose weight..but then I have never been overweight myself and had to lose it. So what do I know?

As an overweight person, I must say that few things are more odious to me than a skinny person, who has had the luck of good genetics, being raised with healthy habits and never had my problem lecture me as if they are an authority , as if they had done something or managed to achieve some hard won goal. Nobody lectures an alcoholic about how they (the lecturer) managed to stay sober.

Thanks for the props.

I do watch fat in food, purely for the purpose of calorie control, however.

How is this shake? I am going to try it, or something pretty similar. I will have to get the ingredients next time I go to the store. I am always in the market for a good health "shake" like this. I like being able to have a whole meal in a drink. You can make them and take em to work or where ever. They don't always taste great. But a Martial Artist, or anyone wanting good health from eating, needs discipline in their diet.

Of course, I left out, but meant to say, put the ingredients in a blender!

I made some great Polenta the other night........onions, mushrooms, fresh tomatoes, tomato paste, garlic, chopped turkey breast, olive oil, spinach, carrots, plus polenta (which is a fancy Italian term for whole grain, unbleached GRITS) Yummmmmy!

That shake would be tough to get down without the blender...=)
