First of all, to your previous post: mmmmmm, cheesy natto....
and to this...wha? pills? YOu will always get better nourishment out of the real thing, my friend. Come on, you can do it. What about natto pizza, or natto dogs, or natto pasta, or natto nachoes...the list can go on and on. I will start with the burger, though, which I have mixed tofu with, some pecans, and some breadcrumbs to make the patty, plus, I am sure I will throw some other stuff in there. Expect a recipe post by the end of the evening. A taste report by Sunday.

Rep Power: 100 | | I've done some reading on the science part of the effects of natto and it's even better than I expected...
there was only one reference to foodpoisening tho, but that was caused by the same bacteria that is *in* natto and the poisening was from other food that has that bacteria (a muffin if I'm correct )
the pills seem to work great tho... :

Hmm. Might be interesting to try. I have used balsamic vinaigrette on it before. It is pretty good, too. You know, though....my nose has been broken so many times, maybe it doesn't work right, anyway. This could explain why I am so perplexed to hear everyone say how nasty this smell is...maybe I can't smell good?! I'm just a dang 'ol mouth-breather.

Rep Power: 36 | | Try this burger, boys and girls!
14 ounces tofu, firm; drained, rinsed
1 small red onion, minced
3 large garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon canola oil
2 tablespoons hot sauce (optional)
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons soy sauce, low-sodium
1/2 teaspoon cumin, ground
1 1/4 cups dry bread crumbs
1/2 c walnuts, ground (optional)
1-2 pkgs natto, room temperature
Wrap tofu in a kitchen towel or several layers of paper towels, y'hear? Place on a cutting board, and weigh it down with an iron skillet or wooden cutting board for 30 to 45 minutes, gotta squeeze out all the water. Meanwhile, saute onion and garlic in oil until onion is limp and slightly brown on the edges. TIP: if you over cook the garlic, it will get bitter, be careful!
Remove towels and place tofu in a large bowl. Mash it to all hell with a fork and add onion-garlic mixture. Add hot sauce, worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, cumin, bread crumbs and walnuts and the sweet ambrosia--natto; mix it up good and well, (which is better than just good, far better than just well). Place in a food processor and pulse to form a uniform texture, like raw hamburger meat.
Add salt and pepper to taste. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to one hour. With wet hands, shape tofu mixture into 8 to 10 patties and place on a well oiled grill.
Handle patties gently; they're delicate...be gentle, you oaf! Grill for 3 to 4 minutes on each side, until browned.
Or, for you city boys & girls: Instead of grilling, saute the patties in olive oil until they are lightly browned on both sides.
Serve it on whole wheat buns, with lettuce, tomato, cheese if ya want, and some miso-mayonnaise, (2T red miso mixed with 1/2 cup of mayo and a little lemon juice to balance it out). If you don't like this, there is no hope for you. I pan-fried one tonight, the other patties are in the fridge, gonna grill them tomorrow for guests. That is how good they are. I won't show the guests the natto in its original form, though.

The burgers went over great. We had two couples come over, one of the couples vegetarian, and the other couple would only eat fish if they ate any meat. So, I grilled up the patties. Didn't mention the natto. It went over great, everyone loved 'em. Now, I think keeping the patties in the fridge overnight helped in keeping them together on the grille. Maybe something to experiment with. Basically, the recipe is just a tofu burger recipe of mine, with natto into the mix in place of a couple things. If anyone else is interested, I will post some more recipes. It doesn't look like too great of a response here on the open forum, though. PM me and I can give you some more, if you like. I am about to start school to be a chef, so I am sure I will have many more recipes-with AND without natto--to contribute. Have a good 'un..

Rep Power: 100 | | | Wu,I am a fan. Ireally like it. I like hot peppers in justabout everything I eat. Used to have a large garden and all I grew were habanaro peppers. The ones already sliced are great in it.
By all means, keep em coming. Now if I can find it cheaper than $41 for 9 cartons. The little one serving cartons at that. But I did like it.
