Rep Power: 86 | | Hydration questions Ok, so I recently bought one of those fancy new scales. It measures bodyfat precentage and hydration. According to the papers that came with it, my hydration % should be between 52 and 58%.
What I have seen is that I average about 49 to 50%. Kind of suprised me, because I thought I did pretty good at drinking water throughout the day.
What I don't exactly know is what this means. How critical is being 2% short? Should I be working to just get at that 52% or should I be working to get up to the 58%? What effects does being short have on my body? How much does that get in my way of losing weight? (I am trying to get to 150 by the end of the year- I am currently at 162)
How do you all get enough water and a full nights sleep at the same time? I mean, If I drink much more, I will have to get up all night (small bladder I guess)
I know my coffee drinking in the morning does not help, but that is my one bad habit I can't give up.....
Your help on becoming more hydration savvy is greatly appreciated!

Rep Power: 6 | | I don't think you need to worry. Within 2% is pretty good.
I am a firm believer that you should drink about half your body weight (in ounces) of water a day. That is JUST water. Anything else coffee, soda/pop, Tea, Kool-Aid, Beer is not included in that measurement.
If you are doing that and almost at your hydration % I think you should be fine. If you are getting only your 64Oz. of water a day then I would say step it up a little. I don't think that anyone should drink less than this though.
AS for those percentages I wouldn't "sweat" the little things. I don't really believe that all body types can be put into neat little scientific numbers. The important thing is do you feel good, are you happy? If the answer is yes, then you are a healthy individual.
The exception to the neat little scientific numbers would of course be weight for something like a career choice. Like Cam.

Rep Power: 153 | | | Good advice, though I doubt I could possibly drink half my weight in water in a day. That would be close to 90 glasses of water.
I'd advise sticking to the minimum 8 glasses a day (64 oz. as above) plus more whenever you're thirsty. Drinking enough water helps the body flush toxins & operate more efficiently but it isn't the only contributor to weight loss.
And I gotta have my morning coffee dangit!

Rep Power: 6 | | I meant in ounces dagnabbit!
If someone ways 180 they would drink 90 ounces.
Morning coffee is fine! Just don't count that into your water intake.

Rep Power: 168 | | | Coffee is full of caffeine and is a diuretic, so it actually pulls water from your system. If you have a high caffeine intake you would need to up your regular water intake just to replenish what the coffee sucked out.
I know with my Zima habit my hydration levels are much lower than they should be. I hate drinking water.
Peace-
Cam

Rep Power: 100 | | | A Zima here and there is ok (with lime). Back to water,at one time in my life I was drinking 2 plus gallons A DAY. Yes I spent a lot of time in the bathroom. I was very much into body building at that time.

Rep Power: 168 | | | Zima= Russian for "winter".
Imagine beer with all the color and taste sucked out of it. A lot like Perrier water with 6% alcohol.

I'm all about the Guinness -- lots of color, lots of taste. Not so much alcohol, I'm afraid (4% maybe). Unfortunately the Guinness is all about me, too, especially on the waistline. So we don't spend as much time together as we should.

Well in that case, you should look up my good friend sake. She'll take care of ya.

Rep Power: 14 | | | drinking Water, wine and whisky (and green tea) That's all ya need.. (well since moving to Chile where Whisky is cripplingly expensive I've switched to pisco sour)
I have been a bit sceptical about this drinking thing - I mean people used not to have bottles of spring water with them all the time a hundred years ago.
(and Cam, can't resist, that picture of you is very sexy)

Ps. Eating lots of fresh fruit and veg may make the difference. When I lived in Seville - where summer temperatures range from 105- 120 far (about 40-50C) the locals told me to eat lots of fruit. Little Debbies and Jaffa cakes don't cut it

What is this sake of which you speak?
Actually, with the temperatures headed downward, some nice heated sake doesn't sound too bad right now! But tell me, oh wise one, what in your opinion is a good all-around brand, and where can I purchase it? (The Korean store in my square has a few bottles but their prices seem a bit high.)
