Milk Substitutes

Hey everyone, I recently found out that I am lactose intolerant and I was wondering if anyone has good tips on how to substitute normal foods like cheese, butter, ice cream etc without feeling like I'm getting cheated. Any suggestions?

I think there's others but don't know for sure, I don't have that problem, but if you look around you might be able to find something better milk wise(soy milk isn't bad) and all the other products(cheese/butter/ice cream) are good

If the lactaid type stuff doesn't work you will want to find your favorite soy based products...don't know which ones taste the best though. Good luck!

I like soymilk and rice milk. Though don't expect them to taste like milk because they don't. Silk soymilk tastes the best. Store brand is usually cheapest. the ones in the refrigerators at the market taste better than the ones on the shelf. Soymilk goes bad in about a week. sometimes longer. Also, soymilk is disgusting in coffee--even the coffee creamer ones.

soy milk

yuk

rice milk is good, can get a bit sweet though

best used for cereals or rice pudding (sweet things)

oat milk is a good substitute for cows milk in savoury things

as for cheese, have you tried goats cheese ?

and there is a great ice cream substitute called swedish glace

Try 3 Tums a day or calcium Pills. I am actually border line lactos intollerant so there are days I can eat it with very little problems and days where it kills me ressurects me just to kill me again.

no need for substitute

Well, according to the TCM, only newborn babies need milk! Adults, male and female, can get enough calcium from green vegies, and lactose-free milk has other things that do more harm than good. As a metter of fact, many women who stopped consuming milk products got rid of their hormonal problems, since they are "designed" to have milk flow out of their bodies, not in! I have lactose intolerance myself, stay away from ice cream, and consume only Dove Rich Dark Chocolate- which has health benefits- with only milk fat in it.

That's a shame. I love milk, drink a big glass of milk mixed with chocolate malt powder every few days, and have no problems whatsoever.

Though sometimes my glands swell into giant balloons and I start going "bbrbrbrbrrr" like a horse. But I'm sure it's got nothing to do with the milk.

Soy. You can make anything from it. I can't drink milk so I drink Silk soy milk or hazelnut milk. You can get most of this stuff from Whole foods and sometimes Trader Joe's.
Good luck.
