Like others are saying, make sure it's balanced. I didn't lose any (fat) weight until I did this, and I practice kung fu and or lift weights everyday. Now my wife complains she can't grab my chunk roll anymore. All the pills and fad diets are just supplemental or enhancements to the basics. If you don't have the basics your probably not going to lose. | ”
That first line is priceless!
I lost some weight after starting KF. I can't tell you how many times people would ask me how I did it. I would reply that I was eating healthier, and that I worked out with martial arts 8 to 12 hours a week. Their faces would fall with disappointment that I did not tell them about some miracle pill or "easy" fad diet. They wanted a quick fix, not the answer that it was a change to a healthier lifestyle.
But that is the only real answer to losing weight permanently.

Rep Power: 41 | | | Personally I find its swimming that helps me slim down more than running. But running is also good and so many other things. Balance your eating habbits out and your routines out and you'll get a benifit. Though this comming from a person who has been living in hotels and eating out for the last 25 days. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | carbs won't help you lose weight. In fact your carbs will turn into fat, like people who work out alot because carbs are used to burn and turn into energy. I would recommend eating it as normal but eat ALOT of carbs if your going to excersize alot |

Actually depending on a persons activity level and what kind of carbs your taking in you can lose weight. Carbs are like any other food group they typically have a lot of nutritional benifits but if are abused will lead to weight gain. Theroretically if a person were to cut out meat (would have to replace it with soy, nuts, and beans) which is basically becoming a vegitarian you can lose weight. The problem is how will you feel. Now in January I personally am going to cut down the amoount of beef products I eat down to once every two weeks or so and increase the chicken and fish intake. Im also going to try instead of cereal for breakfast (raisen bran this morning) I'm going to eat steamed brown rice and shrimp. No bread (even though I eat whole grain) and try to measurably reduce my caloric intake by about 500 calories or have a total caloric intake of 1300-1800 calories a day. The trick is saying to yourself, "I can have this but it would be better to have that," and then eat whats the better out of the two I already only drink soda about once every otehr week. And I wont be drinking it at all in January. Look at your calories and look at what you eat. Grill more, pick leaner cuts of meat, reduce the unneeded/or bad carbs (sweets, soda, etc). |

I never really though soda could make somebody fat...hmm I didnt think it contained alot.....tell me if it works, i'd like to know. Also any idea what I can make to replace a dinner or lunch? I don't always have time make rice...and I'd like something that doesn't taste horrible and can fill me up besides instant noodles. |

Rep Power: 41 | | | When you have a naturally low matabolism like me anything to excess can hurt you. Grilled Chicken (even leftover colled is good) no bread but have everything else you'd eat on a sandwitch. Fruit Salads. I have a really hard time staying thin. I was able to lose alot of weight quickly (thanx to people on this forum) back in August but when I moved duty stations me and my wife drove here, I didnt excercise and I ate and drank alot of things I shouldnt have so Now im playing catch up. |

Rep Power: 41 | | | Race can but doesnt always make a difference. Plus also look at your activity level when you where younger. When I was in middle, high school, and well up until I was 22 my activity level wass very low. Which also hurts my matabolism. Now that its winter and I dont want to move its even worse. I always gain a few inches between nov and feb. |

Rep Power: 41 | | | I had one sensei that use to make us (well not if was just me that day but anyother time), "I am a Martial Artist! I strive for perfection in myself and others." Though its kinda a lame saying he was meaning that in everything we do we should try to be perfect at it....with realizing that we are human we'll make mistakes. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | I dont think its lame...i think its very good. There are people in this world who refuse to believe in others who are so determined they just refuse to believe it. And say there just talking trash to sound cool....i dont think thats true. A real martial artist doesn't take martial arts to kick somebodys ass. Like i said before I was a very unhealthy kid...i started off martial arts to get in better shape then my sifu started teaching me things about life to....and i came to relize he's taught me so much to live my life better and i've become a better person. I think I aim for the same thing....right now its not so much for others because im not a teacher, but I want to become a teacher to so i can teach people on how to live a better and healthier life. I want to improve myself mentaly and physically. |

Rep Power: 41 | | | I always looked at it this way. There are really only three levels or ranks in martial arts.
Student/Student
Student/Teacher
Teacher/Student
There can be no Teacher/Teacher because that would mean you can learn nothing more and only can teach. Even after 100 years of teaching one can still learn something...Even if its what not to do.
Train with intent, with hours of sweat and deligents and what is going to happen will. Our perception shapes our reality. My goal personally is to be a good student, be a good fighter, one day be a good Sifu and good at what I love to do, which I am not any of these yet! |

Rep Power: 0 | | | Hahaha, then we share the same goals! I hope i cant teach things i've learnt in life to others one day to. Thats why martial artists and any teacher alike always says "theres always room for improvement" and i always agree |

Rep Power: 41 | | | Then ask your Sifu he can give you the best advice. Better than any of us can because we are not in your system. We can help but your Sifu should be one where you go first.
