ALL carb diet?

I have heard of and even done the low carb diet but I was wondering if anyone had ever heard of or if it's even possible to do an all carb diet eting nothing but carbs such as rice, pasta, and potatoes? Since these are low fat or no fat could a person do this kind of diet and loose weight if he/she took vitamines?

I'd have to imagine it would be counter productive. I'm not a nutrition expert, but a certain amount of fats and proteins are very important for basic body function.

What's your goal? If you want to create lean muscle mass an all carb diet isn't going to help you.

I'd recommend Protein, lean fats, lower carb with feedings 6 times per day.

This is 100% true and the problem with most all specialty diets. You see...dieting doesn't work, and there has been no diet to ever successfully work. Sure, some diets will cause you to lose weight, but the thing is...they're diets. The most successful "diet" out there is the Weight Watcher diet, because its been around a long time and promotes lifestyle changes. They don't work off of specialty foods, but rather adjust off of healthy nutritious meals. They also promote the idea of balance, which is a big part of healthy eating.

Everyone pretty much has it right from what I have been studying. One thing I would note is that healthy overall eating can be your basic vegatarian (not a fan of alot of vegies myself prefer fruits, meats and rice), ofcourse dont just eat vegies but also fruit some to light amounts of cards. The carbs can be done easily by just eating some sort of oats or rice 2 to 3 meals out of 6 a day. and once to twice a day do the non-veggiatrian thing of some sort of meat. I personally eat alot of chicken and fish....Though had my first Hamburger in over a month the other day

Yeah, What exactly is your goal?
It all depends on what you're after that helps decide what you need to do about it.

I think it could work to lose weight...
there have been bread diets, beer diets, all kinda crappy diets

if you limit yourself to 1 single thing and eat only that and nothing else, you *will* lose weight
it will not be healthy and it won't get you lean mass tho

I've heard of a diet where you eat nothing but rice for like three or four days straight then eat normal for one day then back on the all rice for three days. I think that I heard it was called the Buddahist diet or sometghing to that effect. Has anyone heard about this or know if it works?

The only thing close to that I've heard of is the Monks Diet:
Breakfast: Special K Cereal With Skim Milk, Half a Grape Fruit and a Cup of Skim Milk.

Lunch: Salad with Oil & Vinigar Dressing

Dinner: Steamed Fish/Chicken and Mixed Vegtagles I believe.

Snacks: All the Celery you want (and I believe carrots as well.

Sure, you can always eat all the celery you want, it's a negative food. It takes more calories to process celery than you get from eating it.

You could eat nothing be celery and starve.

cool factoid for you.

Now dip screws the whole thing up.

I'd say its fairly well balanced from what limited knowledge I have on nutrition. But its a diet so I dont trust it too much because it tells you that even some healthy foods for you you shouldnt eat...Though I was the one trying to Diet a month ago so.

I think that any diet that prescribes anything but a healthy balance of the various types of nutrients you body needs is a bogus thing!

It's appealing primarily to those who want a quick fix, an easy way instead of learning to eat correctly. (I am not saying you fall into this category, this is just a general statement.) Then, they are mass marketed for those trying to make a quick buck, but really could not care less how much you weigh or how healthy you are. (The guy who promoted the opposite theory of the one you mention, the all protein diet died an obese man.)

You need protein, carbs and even some fats. The trick is to eat the proper balance. The harder trick (for me anyways) is to keep the bad stuff at a low level. (I eat too much sugar.)

And diets don't work anyways. Because when you come off the diet, what happens? You need a lifestyle change.

I used to fall for some of the fad diet stuff in my youth. I speak from experience.

carbs are actually the onlymacro nutrient you can do without.

you will die without protein once it chronically becomes less than ~.8 grams per kg per day.

similarly you will die without fat. even if you're eating plenty of meat with your carbs. without enough fat you'll cark it. it's called "rabbit starvation".

EDIT- i should also point out, that unless your eating a bag of table sugar or drinking bottles of corn syrup, there's NO WAY you could even eat an all carb diet, since even things like lettuce, carrots, beets, turnips, cabbage, etc. all have small amounts of protein and fat.

My opinion: Ultimately, If you want to lose weight, you need to go on the "don't eat so freakin much" diet. Count calories first. Cut it down to no less than 1200 calories per day. Second encorporate running into your workout. I've tried bikes, elipticals etc. Nothing seems to be quite as effective as running. Third, check your diet. Like others are saying, make sure it's balanced. I didn't lose any (fat) weight until I did this, and I practice kung fu and or lift weights everyday. Now my wife complains she can't grab my chunk roll anymore. All the pills and fad diets are just supplemental or enhancements to the basics. If you don't have the basics your probably not going to lose.
