Rep Power: 149 | | think of it this way
over countless millenia the body has evolved
to efficiently extract what it needs from fruit and veg
thats why your body loves you when you do it
and why it kicked you in the teeth when you dont
suppliments are usually hard for the body to metabolise efficiently
and in some cases they dont get digested at all
if your having problems getting enough fruit and veg in
i highly recommend buying a juicer
get well soon

Rep Power: 11 | | | There's a saying in Chinese:
Taking herbs is inferior to taking good food. Taking good food is inferior to taking good energy.
I used to get sick a lot too. Now that I practice Cosmos Chi Kung, I hardly ever get sick. I went from getting sick 4-5 times a year down to 0-1 times a year. When I do get sick, it doesn't last long -- a few days at most, compared to a week or longer in the past. My students report similar results. Some of my senior classmates haven't been sick in years. And my teacher hasn't been sick in decades.

Rep Power: 160 | | | anything that boosts the immune system is good - meditation, chi kung, good diet, exercise (but not excessive)
herbs if you know what you're doing.
good nutrition if the problem is nutrition related.
with injuries particulalry part of the recovery is usually specific exercises. With injuries and ill health generally the internal systems have a lot to offer but for real results it needs to be individual specific and done in minute detail.

Rep Power: 153 | | Gee, I don't know. There's absolutely no medical proof that chi kung improves your health, none whatsoever.
Now that I'm done tweaking Wraith ...
When I started practicing tai chi I noticed an immediate increase in my overall energy levels (I wasn't doing any exercise before that). Long-term, my back and knee troubles almost completely went away, and my digestive troubles (IBS) decreased to a manageable state.
Improving my diet to include mostly fresh foods has helped further improve what the tai chi started. Decreasing my intake of processed wheat products helped minimize IBS episodes. (It's odd -- I don't have a gluten allergy and I can eat anything made with freshly ground whole wheat. But with processed breads, it's a gamble.)

Rep Power: 100 | | | Sammygirl Chi Kung does improve ones health. Maybe documentation can be obtained. MANY hospitals have started using it. Just after I earned my teaching cert in chi kung I spent many hours at a nursing home teaching and working with patients.
Now there are many nursing holmes and hospitals that use it in combonation with drugs.
With Respect

LOL there's precious little medical proof of a lot of treatments that work for a lot of people.
There is evidence of meditation, including chi kung, boosting the immune system.

Rep Power: 220 | | | Back to the OP Some good information of fruits/foods and their effect on the Immune system Enhancing Your Immune System the Natural Way ... With Food - The Body FEEDING YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM Best Fruits and Vegetables to Help Boost Immune System - Associated Content To combat fatigue, weakness, a propensity for colds and the flu, and arthritic symptoms, we found the following particularly helpful:- Co-Enzyme Q10 - strengthens the immune system
- Garlic Capsules - garlic acts as a natural kind of antibiotic
- Echinacea (only take for 6 weeks at a time, then take a break) Most people know about Echinacea, and take it at the first sign of a cold or flu; but it also helps enormously to lift the first fatigue and other initial symptoms
- Acidophillis (non-dairy) - helps put good bacteria back in your stomach lining.
- Evening Primrose Oil - helps women, but also is good for men's immune systems
- Ginkgo Biloba - for mental alertness - but if it contains ginseng, be careful, because that can cause bad reactions with prescription drugs. Again, consult your physician.
- Extra Vitamin C - up to 1000 mgs. Per day
- Extra Vitamin E - up to 1000 mgs. Per day
- Boron - in limited amounts - helps bone and joint pain
- Calcium - helps bones and joints, and also helps calm your mind
- Vitamin B complex - helps enormously with stress and depression
- Multiple Vitamin tablets - to be sure you are getting everything else you need
We recently saw an article in Newsweek written by a couple of physicians which recommended the following to help prevent and treat colds and the flu (seems to work): - Olive Leaf Extract
- NEC 600 (n-acetyl-l-cysteine)
- Astragalus

Rep Power: 160 | | | There's conflicting evidence of Vit C in such large doses. Studies in Australia suggested a link to cancer.

Y'all know I was kidding, right?
Wraith made an earlier comment about there being no medical proof about how much water to drink. Maybe you all should jump on him a little, too.
