Not as fresh and not likely to have been buried in the backyard for 6 months to a year.

Rep Power: 168 | | | I eat Chinese maybe once or twice a year... I usually only eat at a Chinese place when going out after events with a group of people and the majority votes to eat Chinese... It's not one of my favorite types of food although every once in a blue moon I will find myself craving it... usually when I have gone so long eating the same ol' stuff that I just want something different. I guess I see what most people see here in "Americanized Chinese Restaurants"... It seems like mostly cheap stuff thrown cheaply together. Don't know that I have ever had "real" Chinese food... but I guess the majority of Chinese restaurants in America are the equivalent of what Taco Bell is to Mexican food... the chicken, the beef, the pork... it's like "parts"... or throwaway pieces and not quality meat.
Anyway, when I do eat at Chinese places it's always Gen. Tsao's chicken for me. And I have had really bad to really good depending on the place. I always like lo mein noodles, too, but they tell me thet it's an entree and has to be ordered separately and not as a side dish... Only in China can noodles be considered an entree....

Rep Power: 41 | | | NO I really didn't like Kimchi. Not a cabage fan, but kimchi is different depending on where you go and in some kimchi dishes it isnt made with cabbage at all. Basically (very simplified) Kimchi is nothing more than spiced fermented veggies. What I had did have a redeeming factor as it was heavy in the garlic (I like garlic).
I didn't think it was all that spicy though, was a bit, but I really could only taste the cabbage and the garlic. In korea they dont normally burry the kimchi anymore, however from what I hear the best is burried and has been in the ground for no less than 6months. but can be in the ground as long as a year or so. |

I'd better call my mom and tell her to stop having "spaghetti night."
There's not much Americanized Chinese food that I'll eat anymore, either. If it's really well-prepared and tasty, like any food, yeah I'll eat it, but General Gao chicken is just a deep-fried mess to me.
If you're ever up in Boston, holler and me & the hubby will take you to Chinatown. Or if Unk comes along he probably knows some places that are completely freaky.

Rep Power: 49 | | | The best Chinese food that I had was in Chicago's Chinatown. It was a little hole in the wall place. It was the first time and place where I had eaten squid. My tweacher had ordered it and let me try it. I think I got beef lo mein with lots of scallions and onions. We had gone to Chicago for a tournament (AKA Grand Nationals).

Eating out in chinatown in SanF it was interesting how much sweeter the dishes were than in chinatown in London... my favourite chinese food has been indian chinese cooking which is different again.

If it's just plain spaghetti, then yeah, I would tell her to stop doing that, too. Seems like she would at least make meatballs or meat sauce to go with it....

The best Chinese I ever had was what my late GM's late wife made after training, she always made a meal to feed an army and we always were encouraged to join her and her husband for dinner.
Never had anything so good or anything like it since |

Rep Power: 0 | | | I am a big fan of 三杯雞 or three cup chicken. You cook chicken with a cup of sugar, a cup of soy sauce, and a cup cooking wine (hence three cup chicken). You always add slices of your favorite pepper. YOu can actually cook this with any meat. When I lived in Taiwan my girlfriend made it with pig intestines, which was not my favorite variation. | |
