Rep Power: 153 | | | It's more than luck, it's planning -- like the 2nd half of the article points out. I mean, he does have a heck of a metabolism to burn that many calories but he also has to work extremely hard to keep that metabolism cranked. But then, think about how many heats the guy has swum per day at the Olympics -- I think it's 2-3 at least? That's just insane, an average weekend athlete would be shredded after 1 day.
A couple of years ago I figured out my maximum-minimum calorie counts per day based on my weight and the type/frequency of exercise I do. I have 2 max-mins: 1 for weight maintenance and the other for weight loss (not fast cutting like fighters, but long-term slow loss). My absolute minimum daily calories is 1750 by that calculation.
Recently a friend of mine said I should go on a diet website that would make all my meal plans for me, etc. It attempts to calculate everything for you based on some generic questions, like what are your life/fitness goals etc. I put it all in. Then I filled out the daily workout plan based on how I normally work out daily -- I don't consider it an exceptionally taxing workout. The next screen that comes up basically says "you can't work out that much because you'll burn too many calories." When I pulled up the meal plan it had made for me, I saw why -- it wanted me to eat 1260 calories a day. If I ate that little I wouldn't be able to do more than a couple pushups. And the site wouldn't let me put in my own calculations. Plus the meals were just unreal, I'm not gonna buy one tiny piece of fish for that Wednesday night meal, I cook in bulk dammit.
So I just went back to my own Excel chart. Diets really aren't that complicated. Knock 500 calories off your average daily intake and you'll see steady weight loss. You just have to stick to it.

Rep Power: 41 | | | Currently Im only taking in 1500 to 1800. Supposedly I should be taking in 3000 for maintaince and 2800 for slow and steady weight lose. Now I didnt count calories while I was on vacation. Now I have to work harder, plus its hard to eat that much. |

Rep Power: 153 | | | It is tough to hit that mark especially if you're avoiding junk & fast food. Takes a long time to prepare fresh food.

Rep Power: 49 | | | On a serious note, for me a good breakfast would be 3 scrambled eggs, 2 strips of bacon, and orange juice & milk (2%). If really hungry then I'd eat 4 eggs and 4 strips of bacon.
