Rep Power: 64 | | See I like sushi. Get some wasabi, a slice of ginger, ahh . . . Just be prepared for the dragon breath aftereffects with some mints. But you start talking fermentation or decomposition ( kimchi, natto, Greenland shark, beer, etc ) and I can't stand the smell.

The Japanese say it "cleans your blood", don't know what that means. I eat one small pkg with breakfast, and I think it gives me a little boost of energy, just like after I eat sushi. reading that makes me wanna try it again, but I can still remember that taste of just a tiny bit...
had it with me all day and it wasn't nice...
it's like eating 100 KG of that stinking blue fungus french cheese crap
but then in one single bite...
I love sushi, but natto is notto for the Chief

Just think of it as superfuel to supplement your Eagle Claw. Remember: mustard and a little of the sauce that comes with the little package of natto. (I said soy sauce earlier, but I meant this stuff...it comes with almost every brand. I am eating some at this very moment!!!) I am looking for a book of my wife's that explains the benefits of alot of traditional Japanese foods, including natto. I think if I remember right, it also helps with circulation....I will post what I find....with natto, don't player hate, masticate!! |

Rep Power: 0 | | | Wow that is some expensive natto ... here in veritable nattoland it is normally around $2 for a pack of 3. Or around $5 for a regular tofu sized container (pint). I think you're supposed to chop it up a bit (get rid of the sticky strings) and mix it with chopped green onions and shoyu. Some people eat natto on toast etc.
With that said, I have never tried any, for the reasons chief stated above. |

Rep Power: 36 | | OK, have not found my lady's book, but, I found something on the WWW that lists the same benefits that her book did, minus a few that have not been proved by "western science": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natto
Eat and enjoy...try it with rice and some eggs for b'fast. If you try to down a pkg every day for the next month, I bet you'll be feeling great, and you may just like the taste of it by then. BTW, Jaron...what's Greenland shark? And, beer is awesome! Gimme a couple pkgs of natto, some sushi, and a beer or three. I'm set. |

Rep Power: 100 | | | I just ate the first carton of natto. After putting in the 2 little packets of
whatever it was onto the natto I stirred it up with chop sticks. Looked bad,the more I stirred the gunkier and more stringy it got. I spread it on a large piece of toasted bread. I could hear my heart pounding as I brought it closer to my mouth. To my surprise, IT WAS GOOD. I did not care for the strings that stretched from my mouth to the toast after biting and pulling it away.
I am going to eat one pk for breakfast a day until these 9 pks are gone. I usually do not eat until later in the day but I am trying to get back to eating small portions 5-6 times a day. It will take some getting used to as I have gotten into the (terrible) habit of eating only once a day.
Back to the natto,I think tomorrow I will try some sliced habanaro peppers on it. Probably will be great. I really must find some that is CHEAPER so I can continue eating some each day.
Chief,go on man,try it. It really is quite good.

Rep Power: 100 | | | Thanks Wusung, this thread had me afraid to even try it at first. Once I had my mind set to ignore the strings I was fine. As I said, going to try Habanero peppers with it tomorrow.

That's part of the fun! Just slap some on top of a bowl of steaming hot rice and when you pick up a bunch with your chopsticks you kind of make circles in the air to 'cut' the 'strings' before you pop it in your mouth. |

Ha! I think you may have more grounds to sue than me! I just had another pkg of natto in honor of this thread. Tonight, I am making Chicken Katsu, (chicken cutlet), it is usually fried, but I developed a way to get the same taste by baking it. (I am a wannabe chef) You can bet that there will be miso soup, rice, wakame, and NATTO on the side!! My lady says she would normally say that I must have been Japanese in a former life, but since I'm so big, I was probably 2 Japanese people in a former life! |
