Rep Power: 153 | | | Chicken Schwarma Check this out, came up with this recipe last week. This is a lower-cal version of a lebanese sandwich called a schwarma (can't find anything exactly like it in the states). It's fast to make & gives lots of energy.
1 chicken breast
1 tablespoon tahini
1/4 cup red onion, sliced
1/2 whole wheat pita
mint or basil yogurt (lowfat)
Sprinkle montreal seasoning on the chicken breast along with 1 tablespoon olive oil & bake. When it's done, slice it into strips. Tuck it into the pita bread with a little tahini & put sliced onions on top. Put some yogurt on the side or in the pita if the sandwich is too dry for you.
You can also throw in whatever vegetable you like, salad greens, spinach, hummus or use other meat besides chicken. I usually make a salad on the side.
And yeah, original schwarmas are way better, but they're also dripping with fats & oils. Also I can't fit one of those gyro meat roasting spits into my apartment. |

Rep Power: 27 | | | Thank you, I love Middle Eastern food and don't know how to cook it at all. I bought some spice called sumak (spelling) that was on the salad I got at our local resturant but haven't used it get. I'm going to try to replicate your recipe and the salad. MMmmmm, hummus.

Rep Power: 153 | | | Cool, I looked up sumak since I never heard of it ... fairly rare spice from Turkey. Probably why I can't get a homemade schwarma to taste like the real thing! Let me know how it works!
PaiLumUmar, where's that restaurant! |
