Bridge Training in XingYi

Hi all,
Been asking around the net and on other groups, how does your lineage train "Bridge Techniques" (example, Blocking/grabing the outstretched arm to enable you to counter strike)? If your definition is different, I'd like to hear that too. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Hey Rick

It seems to me these techniques are pretty inherent in the basic usages of many techniques, like the 5 elements. Could you give a more specific example of what you want to discuss?

My thoughts are similar to those that say the techniques are inherent in the forms of the arts. But the techniques may be different, depending on the intent of the user. Another example would be what some lineages of Ba Gua call "taking the fangs from the snake" in that the block/grab/initial strike is aimed at disabling a joint at the wrist or elbow and then using that strike to counter with another from your forms. If this seems lto ring a bell more than my original post, I'd like to hear your ideas.
Thanks,
Rick

You can cross the bridge or you can knock it down.

This doesnt necisarily mean disabling a joint but sending shock into the limb that will cause a serious reaction in the opponent. Some of these methods will send shock deep into the bone causeing the opponent to feel sick, much like when someone breaks a bone.

You can cross the bridge .... But knocking it down is as good a method!

Kindest regards,
Chris
