Rep Power: 0 | | | What style of Hsing-i I've been trying to find out what style of Hsing-i I do, All I know is what our teacher shows us to do . It involves a lot of swinging and wrapping movements and we "run" forward in a straight line and use a step where you spring forward onto the front leg and then drag the back leg up so the heel comes of the ground and you dig in with the ball of the foot. I can't seem to find it on the internet . so If anyone can help that would be cool. |

Rep Power: 69 | | | Do you have 10 or 12 animals in your system?
When in San Ti how is the weight distributed on your legs?

Rep Power: 0 | | | It's hard to describe the swinging movements but we have one move called "Tiger washes it's face" where you sit in a cat stance and swing your hand up in front of your face so the palm faces in towards your face and then drop it , another move called "looking at the moon through the leaves" It kind of uses that chigung where you look like your hugging a tree "Wuji" except you swing this up in a diagonal arc so it looks like an uppercut/hook.
I've never heard my teacher talk about san ti stance but we have a back stance where the weight is 60 % on the back leg 40% on the front leg and stance called cat stance where the weight is 100% on the back leg. |

Rep Power: 38 | | | sounds like hebei. Though if you're doing tiger movements (i.e. tiger washes face) which are relatively advanced, you should ought to know the style.
ask your teacher. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | Could be a Henan style of Xing Yi. There are a couple of slightly different lineages within the style. Henan is genrally not as compact as other styles so the swinging motions could be explained by that. Although, as you progress the motions will become more compact and less grand. The forms I learn are all in a straight line and also to attack in the same fashion (although I wouldn't call it a "run") Also, there are no five elements and only ten animal forms. So you would start out learning a form as opposed to the five fists. Does this sound like what you're learning? Of course, I would just ask my Shifu if I were you. Kind of silly not to know what you're learning IMO. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | I have one teacher that I can talk to ( Sifu ) , We go up north and learn off his teacher I don't ask him questions cause it seems inappropriate. I don't know about elements and that but I heard one where you swing your arms around horizontally and wrap the body is called crossing ?. |

Rep Power: 6 | | | Its not a tiger movement. Its called Cat Washes its face (Mao Xi Le). Seriously, asking is never innapropiate...good teachers know that curiosity in students walks hand in hand with genuine interest.

Rep Power: 8 | | | Tiger Washes Its Face...Cat Washes Its Face is in Xinyiliuhe and Xingyi systems. Not an 'advanced move' per se.
"Looking at the moon through the leaves"?...sounds like a combination of the names "Open the Window to Look at the Moon" and "Blossoms Seen Through the Leaves". The description of the movement sounds like the first one.
Is your teacher chinese?
You should ask your teacher, but additional info never hurts.

Rep Power: 5 | | | It sounds like you are studying the Henan (Muslim) style of Ten Animals and Six Harmonies. The best teacher of this style has produced some good video tapes on two of the three forms. Search the internet for George Xu (Xu Guang-Ming) and buy his tapes and your money is wll spent. |

I have never met him in person but I have studied with one of his students. And I have all of his video tapes. What the first poster describes sounds very much like this Muslim system of Hsing-I using the chasing tiger animal, cat washing face technique and the weight-forward finsihing stance.
The excellence of George Xu's skill shines forth from even a video tape. |

If you have a Bittorrent client, you can download a free video clip of George Xu doing the "Eight and Half Ba" form in the Hsing-I section located here:

Please leave a post and let me know if this is the Hsing-I style that you are practicing. | “ | Originally
