Standing Post

I spent a few months standing and took a couple months off. Ive been back to it now for a few weeks. While reading some material and reflecting on my progress and differences from now versus the past, I became curious about some things. Any and all input, as usual, is highly appreciated:

1. How many of you spend your standing training time in san ti? What about "fixed energy post"? The problem I have with san ti is that its, obviously, far from symmetrical, and one of my kness doesnt deal well with the pressure when I switch sides. Fixed energy post is more symmetrical, similar to very the beginning of some tai chi forms. Have any of you spent standing time in a symmetrical stance like this, and has it been useful, or just as effective as san ti? I tried it last night and didnt seem to get the charged feel in my hands that I do with san ti...

2. Expanding on the above question, what about when youre just walking down the street, laying around watching TV, or sitting at the computer: If you stop and concentrate on moving qi into your hands, can you do it, even though the posture might not be structurally effective for doing so? Shouldnt the overall goal be to move qi regardless of position or situation, or does the whole process become..."automatic"?

3. The classics talk about standing for no less than 45 minutes or more. Alot of people seem to *say* that they stand for an hour every day, but Im not sure I believe it lol. Unless I have the perfect mindset, I can't handle standing for more than 10-15 minutes. At 10-15 minutes a day, am I wasting my time? Sometimes I feel like I can feel what Im supposed to feel, and other times I wonder if Im just fooling myself...

Thanks in advance

I think it's not the big deal to stand longer than you already do. Unless your body uses the time you spent doing something while in it. Like I explained somewhere else, my body is training itself by creating pressure to my fingertips and tongue while doing something completely different, sitting on the computer, whatever.

If your knees ake, then there is something hindering from the knee aligning, or filling enough with liquid to dampen. I have the same phenomen when I do a little stomping, for the simple reason I don't have enough liquid in the bodies chambers that fill the joints. You simply have to limit the time on standing, like to 5 minutes, and do some slow moving in between. Drink enough, rest enough, and simply wait until it goes okay.

Oh, and it's not the position you take that will make the qi go somewhere, it's the position that demands some stabilizing strength be used for a longer time than it is when just sitting around, or moving. Mind would always be able to lead it anywhere any time, if you have enough, and there are no limitations from cramped parts of the circulation.

RE: 45 minutes - which 'classics' are these?

When it comes to Hsing Yi most 'classics' are books written in the 1920s that people now call 'classics'

What exactly are you 'suposed' to feel? You feel what you feel and that's the point - it's very individual - but one thing is true - you need a good teacher.

Well, you said you wanted any feedback - it's good advice - my point being that you won't get what you need from this forum...

I think youre wrong. I think I can get exactly what I need from this forum, in this instance.

But you are right, I did say any feedback...And I do appreciate the response.
