Rep Power: 53 | | So it's better because you don't have to be a brick out-house?
Which weapons are used (and which one is your favorite?)

Rep Power: 61 | | | Id like to add:
- Its difficult to find good wing chun.
- Its kinda difficult to find xing yi. But if youve found it, theres a much better chance that its good.
- Good training principles and a fairly unique perspective on forms makes xing yi a pretty hard art to pass up.
Xing yi really kicks ass. If I didnt have the instruction that I have now, and I could pick any one other style to spend time on, it would be xing yi. |

Within Xing Yi there are the usual swords and sabres, but also there is spear (XY is famous for spear), needles and archery.
Personal favourite is archery, but im most proficient with spear. |

Rep Power: 53 | | | Hmm very interesting... I must now research this some more...
I'm a big sword and sabre fan - and my grandpa used to own a good ol' bow-hunting shop, so I likes the archery - not much experience with spears or needles, but I wouldn't mind...
When I went to an assessment type thing out of the three they offered, they said Wing Chun or Hsing-I would probably be the best fit for me - so I'm trying to find out as much as I can while I'm working on paying some junk off to start! So thanks for the info.

Rep Power: 38 | | | Well, in all seriousness, you could do yourself a favour and click on the URL in my signature "Buy the book" which I helped create.
It covers - in depth - the first and most significant animal of Xing Yi, in all its full gloriousness. Swords, needles and spear. We couldnt do the archery due to UK laws and the twitchy nature of police not liking mad men with bows and arrows trying to shoot each other...
It'll be the best £50 you'll spend this year. |

which is *kinda* different from the US version, but really funny (at times) if you dig that dry English humor...

Best episode I saw was with exibit -
"Dude, we took your girl, we gave her 6 inch heels, uprated the suspenders, and when you want to get jiggy, we installed a 15 inch flat screen tv in the back! You've been officially pimped!"

Rep Power: 53 | | | MAD-TV here in the States did something like that - it was pretty funny.
So in Xingyiquan, when exactly are weapons forms taught in most curriculums? Is it something you start off with or is it something that only the advanced students do?

Rep Power: 38 | | | Well it should be weapons first, unarmed lastly.
However, due to laws around weapons this may not be the case. |
