Rep Power: 0 | | | xing yi/hsing-I or TKD which is it? I don't know that i've ever seen XY. but a couple of years ago i saw a videologue about Jet li. it said he was a tkd and tcc stylist. recently on this site i saw some guy say that he studied XY (was it DAI? and some other method?).
so my question is: is Xing YI what chinese stylists should call TaeKwonDo? |

Rep Power: 150 | | | What in the Sam Hill are you talking about?
No ... unless there's a Korean actor out there named Chet Lee who does TKD. The Jet Li is a contemporary wushu champion who transitioned into movies. There is a variety of Fu moves he does in his films but he had no particular focus on style. But in the last decade he has gotten deeply into the internal arts, especially Bagua & XingYi, and really gotten into Buddhism.
XingYi isn't even close to TKD. Not in flavor, not in movement. Certainly not in the watered-down way TKD is presented to the masses.

is that saying your company code word for "this guy's hit the nail on the head and, although it was true at sometime in the past it no longer is because the party named has paid someone to speak a different tune?"
or, more colloquially, "them's fight'n werdz"!
if it is i won't ask that question again.
i had never heard of Jet being in Wushu until this past summer when i heard the personalouge data was changing.
in fact, he made his moves in chinese theater on his merits as a tkd and tcc stylist: that the audiences thought he was entertaining and worth seeing again and again. eventually comments were made about his actual training and many chinese were amazed that the combination of tkd and tcc could produce such results.
i do understand that he studied XY, wushu and hung gar while living in the US and may have done well in forms competition in some local tournaments in boston and charleston. but he was not a wushu champion until after comming to the US.
enough about him. tell me about Xing Yi, please.

Rep Power: 53 | | Jet Li - No TKD never ever. (Also check out the History of the Beijing Wushu Team - and even better, his personal site) also just for fun... Wushu. Jet Li won the chinese wushu championship first when he was ELEVEN. He never came to the states until he was already a big movie name in China.
Now to your original question about Hsing I and TKD. Read those and your answers to your questions will be found.

Nope, them's more PC words for what I would bluntly say, like "are you smoking crack?" "Why did you ever foolishly think something like that?" I mean any martial artist with a little bit of knowledge and some common sense could tell the difference between them even if they were half blind!
If you want to know about Xing Yi, look at all the threads in the Xing/Hsing-Yi forum, you'll have most of yor questions answered there.

Rep Power: 61 | | | Is this some kind of joke or something? Where are you getting your information??
TKD and xing yi in the same sentence is just bizarre...I suppose they are both considered martial arts. Beyond that there is not any similarity whatsoever.
Jet Li is NOT a TKD guy. Period. He trained on the Chinese wushu team as kid, and his Chinese style shows in his movies. There isnt an ounce of TKD anywhere. But dont take our word for it, go pick up any of his numerous movies and watch for yourself. |

thanks for this link. it has answered all the questions i had.
now, about people changing thier stories...chan pui did that and it caused a lot of grief, too. why does Jet feel he has to change his story? I think it's a great success that he made it in chinese theater with tkd and tcc, that traditional arts study was not neccessary to be entertaining. now, if i was an older brother of him in his arts in any style i'd refuse to teach him: if he'd reneg his own history he'd deny 'us', too. who needs him?
he's petitioned two of my teachers and was successful with one of them. but he only learned three forms with him but sifu never told him what he learned. if i have the final say, because dad's past and i bear his name, he's not one of us.

Rep Power: 25 | | | Is this guy totally ignorant, or just mostly? Fool, maybe? Jet Li was known as Lian Lin Jie (sp?) and was part of the group who performed for Mr. Nixon if you know anything about that? I''m pretty sure that was LONG before he came to US. He hasn't competed in the US.. he's a movie star! My Sifu had videos of Jet Li at a VERY young age and he was very fast, powerful, and fluid in Wu Shu. I saw him perform a drunken straight sword form that was perfect. He was only about 7 then. Jet Li never studied TKD.. and if you can't read this answer clearly then your just trolling a subject.
