Rep Power: 22 | | Hsing I Schools Hi Guys,
Anyone know of any Hsing I or Ba Gua schools around Gloucestershire / Herefordshire England
Can't really find a reputable Tai Chi Teacher either!
It is real hard to find people who know enough to teach real internal arts isn't it!!
Anyone else having this problem
Thanks all.

If you're after taiji classes, you can check out the bccma ( www.bccma.org I think) or tai chi online, or tai chi union. They're both on web, but dont know their URL's. As for the other internal arts...beg..grovel..and above all whine..and maybe..just maybe...someone will come to your rescue (like they did me) www.lixiaolong.freeservers.com for full story ;-)
If you wanna come to sheffield for some teaching, you're more than welcome. Im a taijiquan freak :-) |

Rep Power: 22 | | Thanks for the offer,
May just take you up on that!
Life persueing the internal arts is hard to say the least.
I have contacted Alex Kozma (dunno if you have heard of him author of Esoteric Warriors) about learning some hsing Yi, ba gua, tzuranaman etc. He is in Taiwan at the moment but when he comes back we might hook up.
He is based in London so i will have to travel quite a bit!
Anyways, Thanks for the links.
Will let you know the outcome of my searching.
Cheers

Rep Power: 30 | | | Where abouts are you in Gloucs
Kuanti might be worth getting in touch with if you're interested in Wu style TaiJi.
There is someone in Oxford who might teach XingYi and BaGua. He too is away at the moment and I have never met him.
Other than that - for what you are looking for, there is nothing. There is not much BaGua ro XingYi in the UK as a whole (and if you take out the wushu stuff, even less).
What are you looking for, and where are you looking

Thanks for the input.
"Kuanti might be worth getting in touch with if you're interested in Wu style TaiJi. "
Who is this Is he based in or Around Gloucestershire.
"There is someone in Oxford who might teach XingYi and BaGua. He too is away at the moment and I have never met him."
If i could have the details of this teacher that would be great.
I am looking for strictly non Wu Shu stuff, Very Traditional with as little variation from the source as possible. (isn't Everyone) I would like to meet a real teacher, that has worked for their standing and isn't just interested in the aquisition of wealth.
My Daito Ryu teacher is probably the most skill Japanese stylist that i have ever encountered and yet know one really knows of him. He trained in Japan and i can confirm his training history. Having trained with many teachers before him, there is a marked and noticable difference between him and the others, not only the level of skill, but in the deeper understanding of the principles of the art.
This is what i am looking for in an internal arts teacher, Someone with the depth of knowledge needed to teach such a huge subject.
Thanks Again.

Rep Power: 30 | | Kuanti is a Wu stylist that posts on the board here at DL (as far as I know, not his real name ) There is a Wu teacher of good reputation (never met, but have heard good things about him - and not just from kuanti either) based a little more over Oxfordshire way. Kuanti would be the person to get in contact with if you are interested in this.
The guy who is Oxford based studies TaiJi, BaGua and XingYi. I have not yet met him, but hope to do so sometime fairly soon. I therefore cannot comment on his skill - his teacher is well known though. All depends on how long he spent learning from him ... as with most things. I have heard of someone (whose name will probably be familiar to you if you have some IMA background) who has written of "studying" with this teacher. I later found out the period was a couple of weeks - no more. This is not necessarily to detract this individual - he spent a lot of time with other teachers.
Anyway, this Oxford guy studied from the same source that my teacher learnt from so it would be interesting to compare notes. Not sure about passing on the details without having met him - he seems to keep himself to himself. Next time I'm in touch with him I'll ask.
"Very Traditional with as little variation from the source as possible. (isn't Everyone)"
little variation can mean lifeless - but I know what you mean. Perhaps it is as well to bare in mind what was written above re lineages and the like. Often the people with good lineages who really have some skill are quite "modest" about the lineage they hold. They would rather talk about what they practise now, what they teach now, than about events that are somewhat old now. There's probably a lesson in their somewhere.
"I would like to meet a real teacher, that has worked for their standing and isn't just interested in the aquisition of wealth."
even so, most teachers had to make financial sacrifices to learn their stuff (or, if under the traditional schema, would have had to work doing "little" jobs for the master, then marry the daughter!). Some recompense is to be expected - and some will argue that in this day and age it devalues the art to "give it away free". Personally I don't follow that one as the work involved is considerable if well taught and learnt. Still, the sacrifice of traveling to China and spending 'x' years there is not small. And even if the master was in the UK - the journey expense alone ... anyway, you see where I'm going. Teaching for free is highly unsual these days. Some will charge only a "nominal" fee. Views differ as to what is nominal. Avoid the franchises like the plague.
"I am looking for in an internal arts teacher, Someone with the depth of knowledge needed to teach such a huge subject"
um ... that sort of narrows it down a bit. Be prepared to travel, and to practise on you own a lot.

I sure do see where your going and agree totally! I ment the franchised westernised stuff that is just there to make the teacher money. | “ | Originally posted by RobT

Yep I am aware of this too - thats the trouble isn't it! I am very prepared to travel for good tuition, and i train on my own daily anyways. Running your own business give you the opportunity to train a lot on your own, so i tend to get a good few hours in daily!
Cheers
