Rep Power: 8 | | | Remember that:
Turtle = Water Lizard, Alligator, Crocodile, Water Skimmer, in other XY schools.
Phoenix = Tai Bird, Ostrich
And some branches have a Fighting Rooster form, different from Chicken

Rep Power: 8 | | In my school Eagle and Bear are one form and we had the Fighting rooster instead of the Chicken. But we had one that translated in to Turtle-Aligator.

And a 'Tuo' is actually none of them!
Li Luoneng couldn't find a stranger way to mess up with our heads.
In the older XY books, you can see that the character for 'Tuo' was not the same that we use today. It was a component of the words "Snake" and "Fish". Seems like he was talking about an eel, or something like it. I know of at least one school that still uses that character.
It makes me believe that Luo never actually write the character. The tradition was passed orally, and anyone chose the animal which name was closer to the name and description they heard.

Rep Power: 6 | | Well, what can I say Our croc is definitely a crocodile - the Yangtze Crocodile to be precise - this is the oral tradition passed down. In application of this animal Xing you move with the twisting motions the croc uses when its got prey in its jaws.
Anyway, what do you get if you cross a reptile with a fish You get.... an eel!! Nah - toss that one on the barbie mate! You get a fairdinkum crocodile!
