OK, so I've been doing Xing-yi a couple months now...I'd say about 6, and I recently started sparring.
Now I also do Sh1to-ryu and I've been sparring in that for awhile.
In Sh1to-ryu, when you spar you stand on the balls of your feet, bounce back and forth like a boxer. Emphasis constant movement quick in-and-out attacks, and I'm sorry to say more of a sportlike choice of target areas at my level of sparring (stomach, ribs, face...no kicks below the belt, no open hand techniques to face, no knees/elbows)
Xing-yi- I still hold a kind of short natural stance but my feet are flat on the ground and I don't bounce. It's fast and steady pressure towards the oppenent...no in-and-out attacks like Sh1to-ryu. All targets are fair game as long as you have pads for it, and take downs are encouraged.
Anyone else think these differences are a bit peculiar, Is karate becoming to commercial or am I just in a particularily self-defense based xing-yi class
And finally does anyone else have any similiar things like this from other styles
Bon Chuan, sexiest man alive
