I have a quick question. When you punch, either during the form or just practicing the walk, do you use your other hand to hit you dan tien? I've just started learning the five elements and my sifu told me that it would help alot to condition the body that way.

hmmmm,

In the elements the rear hand motivates 'through the back power' any power used from that hand into dan tien will stop it transmitting to the front striking hand.

You dont want to put power into yourself in Xing Yi when striking, you want to it all to go into the opponent. even as a training method its a bad habit to develop, It can effect your nervous system if you are constantly hitting yourself and will heavily restrict your power.

Not really sure it would develop any sort of conditioning either to be honest. The Nei Gung creates the 'iron shirt' skill in Xing Yi this involved compression and expansion of the body tissues to make them 'springy'.

just my experience .... things may be different in your line.

Cheers
Chris

All right, thanks for the info. I don't really know the names of the lineage holders. We train Hsing-I once a week as part as a class, then we practice it at home. And since we just started, we haven't really gone into much depth about the history.

Thanks again.
