It's hard for me to imagine I chuan training "appealing to the masses". After all, how many people want to stand for an hour at a time or pay incredibly in depth attention to each movement while almost completely ignoring "pretty forms"
As for Wang Xiang Zhai, who knows I never met him or Guo Yun Shen or any of those folks so it's tough to say what they were like, how skilled they were or weren't. It is pretty widely accepted that Mr. Wang had an open invitation for any martial artists to come and "play" with him in a respectful environment. That doesn't sound to me like the actions of someone who didn't know how to fight.
I'm asking this in an honest curiousity; what "external" movements and philosophies did Wang Xiang Zhai add to the Hsing I that he learned Also, I'm sure this is BTDT, but what's the difference between "internal" and "external" in your opinion
Regards,
Josh |

Wang Xiangzhai was a student of Guo Yunshen. And he developed Yiquan in the 1920's. Guo Yunshen died circa 1905-1907

Interestingly the French refer to the british in slang "roast beefs" (les rosbifs) . Lets compile all the food based national/racial slurs... |

Back on topic though : Does anyone have any references for the Yi-chuan training exercise where you exhibit jings from various different parts of your body (like through your back etc..) |

Rep Power: 0 | | DACHENGCHUAN / Yi-Chuan Hey - XVampireX.
Try the book DACHENGCHUAN by Wang Xuang-Jai. (student of Wang, Xhiang Zhai). It's a very fascinating and contriversial book. It Really speaks badly about practicing so many martial arts forms and promotes returning to the simple process of building your "instinctual" fighting awareness thru standing meditations (and imagery).
I practice Wing Chun, Tai Chi Chuan, Xing-Yi, and Karate (Yes, karate, don't want to forget the Japanese) and I apply DACHENGCHUAN (Yi-Chuan) theories to all these styles and can see the benefit.
I Highly recommend this book. (It's one of the top 3 in my library).
Happy wanderings. | |
