Rep Power: 69 | | | Yeh, thanks for sharing Chris. I was doing some light sparring with another one of Cam's students tonight, and I decided to throw of few Pi Chuans, he had a hard time blocking them and kept getting bonked ont he forehead as he was used to ducking the straight punch. Anyway we were just playing, but Pi has always been a favorite kind of energy.

Heh... They can be blocked but even then you feel them. It's an angle that one definitely needs to be adept with dealing with... Not fun at all.
Peace-
Cam

Regarding blocking Pi...... PAO! |

Rep Power: 30 | | | Yup, pao is the classical answer.
Mind you, if you can get good at the small circle/ tight coiling stuff then you can use Pi back (a Pi-ing contest). If someone does Pi in a large action, then stepping inside and using the coil in (will deflect a lot of force "behind" you) and then release (as you now control the center, it is classic Xingyi carving through the middle).
Or ... oh the possibilities!

Rep Power: 22 | | | “ | Chris... Im not sure what exactly it was all about. But they always seemed to outstretch theiri both hands, no one is going to do that in a real fight... Or was it like if they were to hit you with either hand and you go in | ” | |
It was their version of a guard stance, kinda boxing stylee.
using monkey wrist against their guard is what is demoed here. They are NOT attacking, just taking a guard of some sort.
This is one problem to overcome in a real fight - getting past someones Guard stance. If they have a good strong guard you need to break that down somehow. It is also good to test someones power or skill level by shocking their guard.
This is also one of the best ways to test the power of Monkey wrist. Doing it on someones head kinda ..... well .... knocks them out.
you are breaking their guard down and 'crossing the bridge' to attack their centre with another movement. Here i only show Pi chuan becuse this is where they are learning wise.
on some occassions we were using monkey wrist against a punch - you see me effect their body with this and attacking at 45 degrees. Simple stuff really.
Then we worked on Heavy elbow, firstly with a simple slip past the attack then heavy elbow across the body for a throw - again i am just teaching the principle here. Real application would be a bit rougher!
we then worked heavy elbow as a striking tool, pi chuan through the elbow. Against the collor bones, chest, face and hips.
This clip is just some of the teaching i was doing, at no point does it show REAL application.
I teach to try and get the power and principle out of the student then we can move onto 'applications' by freeling using the power and principles.
Cheers guys
Chris

Rep Power: 81 | | | I like it and get what you are trying to do.
One thing I have stopped doing that we TMA do aften is defend against a supposed front side lunging/stepping strike (right leg stepping forward & right hand attacking).
I have yet to see that type of things happen in real life except the occasional long ranged attempt at a jab.
Never a lay person. SO we train it on occasion to learn to defend against front side attack (jabbing).
It changes the dynamic and structure with opposite side hand arm forward. And is Slightly more realistic.
Keep it up I'd like to see more.
