Also known as Henan Style Xing Yi started by Ma Xue Li (a student of Ji Long Feng) in the Henan province. Only ten animal styles and no 5 elements. Not much info online that i've been able to find. |

Rep Power: 5 | | | Thanks for the info.
What really caught my eye was the name used (ma) is very similar to the name of the style of Kung-Fu I study and teach.
Always good to find out theres more and more information out there.

Rep Power: 4 | | ok this may well sound like a daft question but i'm gonna ask it anyway
in tai chi there are different styles which in some cases look very different, but the trained eye can spot similarities, or see moves that have clearly evolved from the same source
is this the same with the different styles in Xing Yi (and Ba Gua for that matter)?
and do the different styles all evolve from a common source?
cheers |

Rep Power: 22 | | Yeh this is the case. But can be a little harder to see that with Tai chi sometimes.
The main three branches originate from Li Lao Neng who learnt the Dai Family Xin Yi. This is the root and is still going strong. The main branches can look very similar but trained eye can see the differences ... and also vise versa!
cheers
Chris

Rep Power: 0 | | The various styles of xingyi and xinyi show much more variance than the various styles of taiji, which are still extantly somewhat similar.
However, the styles of xingyiquan look rather similar to each other; the styles of xinyiliuhequan look rather similar to each other; and the styles of xinyiquan practiced by the Dai and Guo families in Shanxi also look similar to each other. Externally, however, xingyiquan does not look much like xinyiliuhequan or Dai/Guo family xinyiquan. Xinyiliuhequan has some vague similarity with Dai/Guo family xinyiquan, but still looks quite different.
They are all of the same family in the end, though. It is always interesting watching people perform this or that style, so that you can see the similarities for yourself. All for one, one for all! |
